Norwegian Refugee Council
The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) has been present in Somalia since early 2004 and has since expanded its programme to Kenya in 2006, to Ethiopia in 2011 and Yemen in 2012.
The
Regional Office is based in Nairobi, Kenya with offices and operations in
Somalia (Puntland, Somaliland and Mogadishu), Kenya (Dadaab and Molo) ,
Ethiopia (Addis Abeba and Dolo Ado) and in Sana, Yemen.
NRCs'
core activities in the Somalia-Kenya mission include: Shelter, Emergency Food
Security and distribution, Education, Protection and Camp Management training.
Dadaab refugee camp is home to approximatley 463 000 refugees with 98% orignating from Somalia.

As
a consequence of the conflict, drought and famine in Surth Central Somalia,
more than 150 000 new refugees arrived in Dadaab in 2011. children constitute
57% of this population while 19,1% are youth.
Over
half of the children, do not access primary school and 92,6% do not access
secondary school.
NRC
is running education centres for refugees and local youth, providing them with
basic academic skills and vocational training through the Youth Education Pack
(YEP).
Around
600 students graduate annually and are provided with a start-up kit to run
their own business.
NRC
provoides training to YEP teachers in teaching methodology, life skills and
other cross-cutting topics, and also build schools, classrooms and temporary
structures.
NRC
intends to expand on these activities throughout 2012.

In
close collaboration with the NRC Horn of Africa, expand, develop, coordinate
and manage NRC’s education project in Dadaab
- Represent NRC at education sectoral meetings at local level in Dadaab, and in relevant education working groups -Recruit education staff as required
- Manage the NRC education staff and provide on the job training
- Develop budgets for proposals in conjunction with the Finance Manager
- Manage and monitor programme finance and budgets
- Organise all logistics for the projects
- Actively promote the rights of IDPs/returnees
- Report monthly on all NRC education activities in Dadaab, and as required by donors, excluding financial reporting
- Any other task relevant to the position as requested by the Area Manager
Qualifications
- Higher degree in education or related fields of study -
- Solid field experience, preferably from refugee/IDP education programmes in complex emergencies
- Experience in capacity building and training of teachers Experience in staff management
- Experience of management of projects to deadlines
- Experience in logistics/administration management
- Experience of coordination and advocacy work
- Significant understanding of complex emergencies and crisis contexts
- Proven communication, interpersonal and leadership skills
- Fluency in the English language
- Political and cultural awareness and experience of working where insecurity is a major issue
- Computer skills Proven skills in report/proposal writing
- Holder of a valid international driver’s licence
