The
BBC Swahili Service is part of BBC Africa and we broadcast to around 20 million
listeners in Eastern and Central Africa. BBC Swahili is producing a series of
TV and radio debates around the Kenyan elections complemented by an integrated
web / social media platform and training to our broadcast partners.
BBC
Swahili Service seeks to fill the following vacancy based in Nairobi with
frequent travel to various locations in Kenya.
Position
Title: Broadcast Assistant (Full Time, Fixed
Term Contract, 8 Months)
Job
Purpose:
The
Broadcast Assistant will provide general administrative support for all
programming activities for the Kenya debates programme, under the line
management of the Senior Producer.
Specifically,
this role is responsible for ensuring that programme recording is achieved on
time, concise biographies of all panelists are produced and disseminated prior
to recording, and programme broadcast transcripts and accurate translations
from Kiswahili into English are produced each week.
He/she
will occasionally assist the editorial team in undertaking factual research to
a broad or specific brief, using a wide range of resources.
On
the recording day, he/she will time the recordings; work with technical teams
in coordinating TV inserts, online content and social; media feeds, and will
also ensure technical set up for radio broadcast on the Swahili Service
He/she
will also coordinate and confirm all transport provision for guests and VIPs.
Qualifications:
- At least 3 years’ experience in a pre and post production TV and radio environment, in a similar role.
- Experience in conducting studio based timings on live or pre recorded programmes.
- Excellent translation skills from Kiswahili to English.
