Duties and Responsibilities
The position will report to the Project Manager and will coordinate all social environmental issues arising from Corporation's projects construction.
The specific duties and responsibilities will include:
- Coordination of Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) liaison offices on the ground during construction
- Dealing with all social and environmental issues arising from the communities during and post construction and other stakeholder matters affecting the Corporation
- Develop a social environmental stakeholder policy for the Railway Sector in Kenya
- Providing technical and advisory support to rail sector stakeholders towards achieving positive and sustainable development outcomes
- Designing, implementing and tracking progress on social performance systems with a view to ensuring compliance with corporate and legal standards
- Preparing terms of reference for the social surveys in the corporation projects and facilitating implementation of related recommendations
- Advising and recommending scenarios that will optimize on community benefits on the basis of assessments and surveys on the impact of the projects/infrastructure development within specific areas/Counties
The Social Environmentalist must have the following qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree in Sociology or equivalent from a recognized University
- Diploma in Human Resources, Counseling or Physiology or equivalent
- A minimum of 10 years experience in Counseling or training and or working with communities
- Previous work experience in environmental and social impact assessment in projects of similar magnitude will be an added advantage.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Proficient in Computer user skills
