International Medical Corps (IMC) is an international non- profit NGO that seeks to recruit applicants for the following positions for our MARPS Project funded by Centers for Disease Control (CDC) project in Nyanza, Kenya.
This program is carrying out evidence based interventions for HIV prevention and HTC in youth, the general population and MARPs. This program is implementing, in collaboration and partnership with the Ministry of Health -Government of Kenya’s (GoK) Provincial, District, and facility level staff and other CDC implementing partners in Suba and Migori Districts.
Programme Officer (Behavoural Change Coordinator/Social Scientist)
Minimum Qualifications
· A Masters degree in
Behavioural or Social Sciences, Health Education, Public Health, Sociology,
Epidemiology, Anthropology, or other related postgraduate degree.
· 3-5 years experience
in implementation of HIV prevention behaviour change interventions.
· Knowledge, understanding
and sensitivity of attitudes and cultural practices impacting health among
communities in Nyanza province.
· In depth knowledge of
behavioural survey design and implementation and reporting.
· Knowledge of Evidence
based behavioural Interventions for HIV prevention.
· Ability to coordinate
and supervise a team of health educators and other prevention community staff.
· One year experience
in HIV testing and counseling programs and implementation of community health
activities.
· Knowledge of
Intervention Program M and E; Good computer skills (Microsoft Office or
WordPerfect, Powerpoint); knowledge of computer software for quantitative and
qualitative data analysis e.g., SPSS, STATA and SAS
· Documented Ability to
prepare project reports
Desired Qualities
· Ability to coordinate
planning and implementation of evidence-based behavioural interventions
including behaviour change communication strategies and interventions.
· Ability to design and
implement peer educator and support discussions.
· Excellent
written/oral communication, interpersonal and organization skills.
· Knowledge of Ministry
of health Structure and ability to work as team player, communicate effectively
with local communities, and other HIV/ STI implementing partners.
· Fluency in both
written and spoken English and Kiswahili.
· Good problem solving
and supervisory skills
· Willingness to
relocate to Suba/Migori.

Specific Tasks and Responsibilities:

Specific Tasks and Responsibilities:
· Provide overall
coordination and support of the planning, design, and implementation of
evidence-based HIV-prevention behavioural interventions.
· Lead in the
adaptation and training of appropriate interventions.
· Supervise the program
staff in packaging of interventions for the Program.
· Supervise the
development of training materials for interventions.
· Coordinate program
staff training by facilitators of interventions.
· Supervise prevention
community health workers during implementation..
· Facilitate linkages
across different HIV programs and services at health facility and community
levels; HIV Testing and counseling and Care Treatment and strengthening of
health facility-community linkages.
· Coordinate and
supervise evaluations on the efficacy of behavioural interventions and
programs.
· Lead and/or
collaborate in the analysis of behavioural surveys and the preparation of
reports for both in-country use by the Ministry of Health and implementing
· Disseminate and
present behavioural data for education and advocacy to government officials,
health professionals, and community leaders
· Perform any other
duties as assigned by the Program Manager.
Social Workers (1)
Key responsibilities:
Key responsibilities:
· Facilitate functional
community involvement in project implementation and activities.
· Community education
and mobilization
· Facilitate client
testing data collection and documentation;
· Ensure accurate
reporting, data maintenance and integrity.
· Identify lead and
supervise teams of CHWs, peer educators and support groups.
· Establish client
support and referral mechanisms to care facilities.
· Facilitate capacity
building of evidence based interventions programs for community health.
workers, patients and other community structures as appropriate.
· Supervise teams of VCT
counselors in community outreach for HTC.
· Conduct routine home
visits and monitor project performance.
· Supervision of peer
educators and community support group.
· Maintain
confidentiality of all activities to preserve dignity of all clients.
· Facilitate and
participate in regular meetings with District Fisheries, Health and Education
teams.
· Carry out other
duties deemed necessary Project Manager
Minimum requirements:
· University Degree in
Social Work with 3 years experience or Diploma in Social Work with at least 3
years experience in HIV programs in rural settings.
· Excellent
supervision, team work and communication skills.
· Experience in
HIV/AIDS/STI community health programs.
· Knowledge and
experience in HIV interventions and counseling skills.
· Willingness to
relocate to Suba/Migori.
Terms
of Employment:
A one year contract as per International Medical Corps employment and salary scheme.
An initial 3 month probation period, subsequently contract is renewable annually for 4 years or duration of funding.
