Industrial Property Institute is a State Corporation under the Ministry of
Industrialization established under the Industrial Property Act 2001 to
administer and promote industrial property rights (IPRs) in Kenya.
Its main functions include registration of patents, trademarks, industrial designs, utility models and technovations; promotion of innovation and inventive activities; dissemination of IP information to the public, screening of technology transfer agreements and licenses and offering of training in IPR.

- A Diploma from the Kenya School of Law after successful completion of the Council of Legal Education Examinations.
- Admission to the roll of Advocates.

- Facilitating the implementation of all the statutes administered by the Institute.
- Facilitating the registration of trade and service marks.
- Screening and facilitating registration of technology transfer agreements and licences.

- Receiving, examining and processing applications for trademarks, service marks and geographical indications.
- Assisting in the preparation of applications for publication in the Industrial Property Journal.
- Classifying applications according to the Nice and Vienna International Classifications.
- Assisting in the preparation of certificates for registration of trademarks and service marks.
- Receiving and examining applications for renewal,, assignments, licences, change of name and addresses and preparation of the requisite certificates.

- Assisting in the procurement/purchasing of stores, and the implementation of Government Supply Rules and Policies.
