Assistant Manager (Welfare & Employee Relations)

Reporting to the Human Resource Manager
Job Profile
- Liaise between Company Management and the Kenya Petroleum Oil Workers Union in order to promote and sustain industrial harmony
- Prepare for Collective Bargaining Agreement negotiations when it is due and over – seeing the implementation of all provision of the existing CBA.
- Liaise with the Federation of Kenya (FKE) on employer/employees matters.
- Attend to trade disputes raised by the union to the Minister of labor and to the Industrial Court.
- Attend staff disciplinary committee meetings and take minutes of the same.
- Ensure compliance to the labour laws and all other statutory requirements.
- Participate in the resolution of employee grievances and disciplinary cases, recommending appropriate action to resolve problems as well as assisting employees to find satisfactory solutions to personal problems through counseling.
- Oversee the running of the workplace HIV prevention programme and ensure adherence to the public service guidelines on HIV.
- Oversee the counseling unit.
- Arrange for employees to be referred to appropriate medical specialist
- Oversee the smooth running of the staff clinic including availability of drugs and the right personnel.
- Negotiate with health service providers for provision of appropriate services
- Participate in the recruitment and selection of staff in the Section
- Plan, monitor and evaluate the performance of staff against set targets and objectives and implementing development action plans aimed at building the capacity of individuals and multi-disciplinary teams
Person Profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences or Human Resource Management
- Minimum years eight (8) years relevant experience.
- Post Graduate Qualification in Human Resource Management
- Membership to a relevant professional body e.g. IHRM, KIM.

- Strong interpersonal, communication, influencing and negotiation skills
- Proven track record and ability to solve interpersonal conflict
- Proficiency in computer applications
- Ability to deliver the articulated vision for change to staff members.
- Creates a sense of urgency around change and motivates staff to join change efforts.
- Ability to identify and clarify key underlying issues in employee problems and independently counsel staff on significant challenges facing the organization, and negotiate resolutions to conflicts which seem to be at an impasse
- Ability to take personal responsibility for dealing with employee in a non-judgmental manner
- Ability to maintain professional status and keep abreast of evolving trends in industrial relations development through continuing professional education programmes.
- Must be committed to employee rights and mutual justice.
