Vacancy: Project Officer - Multiple Micronutrient Project

Purpose of the position: This position reports to the Project Manager Nutrition and its main role is to ensure the successful implementation and monitoring of Multiple Micronutrient Project (MNP) aimed at contributing to improved children wellbeing outcomes within the operation area.
Major Responsibilities:
Project planning and implementation
- Ensure proper planning and implementation of Micronutrient project in area of operation as per WV and donor standards and guidelines
- Conduct county/sub-county and community level sensitization on micronutrient project
- Develop quality project annual work plans, budgets and 4D matrix and use to implement the project
- Ensure effective integration of MNP with nutrition interventions and other projects in the programme
- Ensure MNP supplies requests are channeled through the ministry of health for timely dispatch to the health facilities
- Conduct capacity building initiatives to Ministry of Health(MoH) staffs and Child Health Workers(CHWs) on use and benefits of micronutrient powders
- Ensure effective integration of gender, child protection, disability, Christian commitment and advocacy into MNP & other nutrition interventions.
- Ensure identification of local needs and resources and take appropriate programming measures
- Ensure accurate and quality micronutrient project design documents are used
- Timely mobilization and effective communication with communities and stakeholders during baselines and evaluations on MNP
Monitoring, reporting and documentation
- Engage community leaders and partners to plan for monitoring of MNP activities
- Develop monitoring plan with communities and partners based on WV, MOH and donor standards; with support from the Design Monitoring & Evaluation (DME) specialist.
- Facilitate capacity building of communities and partners on monitoring and ensure participatory monthly data collection
- Strengthen MoH and WV reporting systems
- Develop quality project progress reports, stocks and beneficiary reports and management reports according WV, MoH and donor requirements.
- Ensure availability of IEC materials on MNP at the health facilities
- Ensure joint monthly monitoring of MNP and other nutrition indicators as per schedule with communities and partners
- Ensure collection of MNP data using standardized tools
- Share MNP and other nutrition monitoring data
- Utilize DME software for accurate data entry, analysis and interpretation
- Share MNP baseline and evaluation reports at community and sub county levels
- Facilitate regular reflections with the community and health facilities on MNP practice to make improvements as needed
- Ensure monthly monitoring of project expenditure and level of implementation
- Ensure documentation of local needs and resources and share with appropriate sectors and partners
- Identify and document nutrition best practices and lessons learnt from the project
Engagement and networking
- Effective representation of WVK in nutrition stakeholder meetings at county and sub-county levels in collaboration with the ADP/Project manager.
- Report on resource mobilization opportunities at county and sub-county level
- Participation in National/International nutrition days at county and sub-county level in collaboration with the ADP/Project manager.
- Provide information to inform fund raising initiatives at national level
- Work with the Ministry Health for technical direction and leveraging of resources to support nutrition interventions in the ADP.
- Facilitate community members to advocate on nutrition issues to relevant stakeholders
- Any other responsibility as may be assigned by the ADP/Project manager
Qualifications: Education / Knowledge / Technical Skills and Experience
- Relevant degree in Nutrition or their equivalent. Additional training in Community Nutrition will be an added advantage
- Must be enrolled with Kenya Nutrition and Dietetics Institute (KNDI)
- A minimum of two years working experience in Nutrition projects at community level
- Experience in partnerships including Ministry of Health and churches
- Experience in Health systems in Kenya at county, sub-county and community level.
- Good understanding of Ministry of Health systems, Nutrition programming models and standards and guidelines
- Ability to converse in Ngturkana will be an added advantage
Working Environment / Conditions:
- Work environment: Typically field based with frequent domestic travel
- On call: during emergencies
