NMK seeks design competition from eligible firms to provide quality design, which enhances recognition of the Heroes and Heroines of Kenya.
Objective
NMK is running a competition whose objective is to select a design proposal for a utilitarian and functional monument that should symbolize our National unity, integrity, diversity and richness while capturing the spirit of selflessness and sacrifice demonstrated by our heroes and heroines.
The proposed design should also embody tangible and intangible heritage. It should be uniquely Kenyan, have an exhibition space, shrine, a documentation space, public amenities, clear passage and be able to hold at least 500 people at once as an entity.
It should be in harmony with the surroundings and made of weather compliant materials.
Submission Requirements
1. Competitors should be
Kenyan citizens preferably from a consortia of qualified architects, sculptors,
artists and designers.
2. Participating
Consortia must demonstrate competence in areas of architecture, engineering,
design, quantity survey and art with at least six years of experience as
outlined in a portfolio.
3. A brief report
outlining detailed design plans, construction method, materials to be used and
finishes.
4. A 3-Dimensiional
model of the monument in relation to the site measuring 150cm by 150cm.
5. Submitted entries
should be anonymous; however they should be number-coded as per the Terms of
reference conditions.

the winning competitors by the client (National Museums of Kenya):

1st Ksh.300,000/=
· Model design placed
2nd Ksh.200,000/=
· Model design placed
3rd Ksh.100,000/=

eligible candidates, may obtain further information and detailed Design, Terms
of Reference from the Office of the Principal Procurement Officer at the
National Museums of Kenya Headquarters, Museum Hill road during normal working
hours.

Complete set of design proposal shall be wax sealed and delivered to:

and be deposited in the Tender Box located at the Louise Leakey Memorial Building on or before 9th September, 2011 at 12.00 p.m.
The competitors are invited to witness the opening of the proposals.
Models prepared shall be sealed and delivered at the same time with the design proposal and the winners shall be announced within seven (7) days after submission of proposals. The Jury’s decision shall be final.
