Project Title: ECHO La Nina III Project
Position Title: Project Coordinator
Duty Station: Nairobi, Kenya
Duration: 1 year, renewable

Role

The Project Coordinator reports to the Country Director and his / her role is to coordinate and provide support to the ECHO La Nina III project in VSF Belgium sites, Turkana and Garissa

The project is implemented by a consortium of six partners led by Oxfam (ACTED, VS F-Germany,  Concern World Wide, Oxfam, VSF-Belgium, VSF-Switzerland) in Turkana, Garissa, Wajir, Pokot,  Samburu and Mandera counties.

The main interventions are geared towards strengthening resilience and preparedness in Arid lands by building on initiatives of other stakeholders including government and donor funded projects, including those funded by EC.

The project seeks to establish strong linkages with longer term interventions of all consortium partners involved in the project. 

The consortium approach seeks to ensure a harmonized approach that utilizes different skills and expertise of each partner whilst ensuring cost effectiveness and greater impact.

Main Responsibilities and Duties

Project Implementation
  • Support staff in Project implementation
  • Develop overall project work plan
  • Build staff capacity in project concepts and implementation requirements
  • Provide technical support and training of staffs on community contingency planning
  • Work with project teams to ensure compliance with donor requirements project
  • implementation as well as with VSF Belgium’s internal procedures
  • Ensure timely implementation of project work plan
  • Monitoring budget expenditure for the project
  • Coordinate project and ensure sharing of expertise amongst staff
  • Coordinate with District and County level government and international and local organizations
Project Monitoring and Evaluation and Reporting
  • Support project staff in project monitoring
  • Ensure project targets are met
  • Review project sites reports, compile for submission to consortium
  • Coordinate all project reviews and evaluations
  • Collect lessons learnt and best practices and collate for sharing with the consortium
Communication and representation
  • Participate in partners and government forums both at local and national level
  • Represent organization in external forums and make presentations as necessary
  • Participate in ECHO consortium meetings
  • Communicate with ECHO consortium lead on ongoing issues in the project and project areas
  • Participate in proposal development for future ECHO funded projects
  • Responsible for knowledge management within VSF Belgium.
Essential or Minimum Requirements

Education: Masters degree in a development related field

Knowledge and Experience
At least 5 years project management and coordination experience in recognized development humanitarian organizations
Experience in developing and implementing development/humanitarian programs including:
  • Budget management for grant/donor funding such as ECHO, EC
  • Project planning and implementation
  • Working in emergency or humanitarian situations
  • Working in ASAL communities
  • Expertise in community contingency planning and disaster risk reduction
  • Report writing
  • Proposal development
  • Staff capacity building
  • Knowledge and experience of project cycle management
  • Experience with working with multiple stakeholders and consortiums
Skills
  • Project management skills
  • Good coordination skills
  • Good team playing skills
  • Strong communication skills (interpersonal)
  • Computer literacy (with strong excel skills)
  • Ability to network and prepare and present issues at all levels
  • Fluent in English
