Exceptional professional to run a leadership and management training program for staff.
Job Location
Rural Kenya or Rwanda (possible E. Africa capital after 12 months).
Duration
Minimum 2 years commitment, full-time job.
Organization Description
Most of the world's poor are farmers, representing the largest and most uniform group of poor people in the world. One Acre Fund is a growing social enterprise in Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, and Tanzania that is innovating a new way of helping farm families to achieve their full potential. Instead of giving handouts, One Acre Fund invests in farmers to generate a permanent gain in farm income. We provide farmers with a "service bundle" that includes education, finance, seed and fertilizer, and market facilitation. Our program is proven impactful – every year, we weigh thousands of harvests and measure 50-100% average gain in farm income per acre. We have laser-like focus on generating better lives for the people that we serve.
Job Description
One Acre Fund has an incredible team of international development professionals who dedicate their lives to serving smallholder farmers in Africa. We currently hire less than 1% of applicants and are constantly seeking to improve our staffers’ professional, management and leadership skills. We are focused on further establishing and expanding our leadership and management training options for these staffers and seek a dedicated new staffer to run this program.
The Human Capital Development Manager (or associate) (“HCDM”) will play a key role in the following:
- Initial evaluation and audit: The HCDM will begin by working with One Acre Fund’s senior management to take inventory of our current professional development initiatives across all countries.
- Evaluate additional areas for growth: The HCDM will simultaneously work with One Acre Fund staffers across all countries and departments to identify additional key areas for professional growth to ensure we are taking a holistic approach to professional development.
- External review: The HCDM will perform an exhaustive review of best practices in both the for profit and not for profit sectors. This will include networking and meeting with key industry leaders and traditional research to identify the most impactful ways to build career, management and leadership skills for an international group of staffers.
- Implementation: The HCDM will create a comprehensive human capital development program accessible to staffers across the globe based on the findings above. This development program will include web-based learnings, courses and modules, as well as live courses and events.
- Management of programs: The HCDM will work with One Acre Fund’s senior leadership group to implement the program, arrange for presenters for any live or virtual meetings or sessions and continuously evaluate programs for impact and effectiveness. The HCDM will be primarily responsible for managing the overall program vs. teaching individual modules.
- Monitoring and evaluation: The HCDM will take the lead in monitoring the program across all countries to ensure that staffers are utilizing the resources and reporting back substantial benefits as a result.
