Scope of Work
Title: Logistics Manager
Location: Nairobi, Kenya (with in-country and periodic international travel)
Period of Performance: August 01, 2014 – September 30, 2018 (funding dependent)
Background: The USAID Building Capacity for African Agricultural Transformation (Africa Lead II) Project is a five-year effort to support and advance the agricultural transformation in Africa as proposed by the African Union Comprehensive African Agricultural Development Program (CAADP), while simultaneously contributing to the Feed the Future goals of reduced hunger and poverty, by building the capacity of men and women African leaders, institutions and stakeholders to develop, lead, and manage the structures needed for the transformation process.
- The establishment of institutional/organizational architecture to lead African agriculture transformation at the national and regional levels, operating at the highest level of effectiveness;
- The operationalization of capacity to manage policy change and alignment process; and
- The effective participation and leading when necessary, of Non-State Actors (NSAs) in the CAADP process.
Responsibilities: The Logistics Manager is responsible for advising and managing all procurement and logistics arrangements essential to the successful operation of the Africa LEAD II program (East and Southern Africa), ensuring efficient and transparent procurement and logistics processes
SOW overview:
- Provide on-going logistical support to project activities in East and Southern Africa.
- Manage logistics for all training courses, workshops, and other activities in coordination with team members in East and Southern Africa.
- In collaboration with the Finance and Administration Manager, ensure that staff and consultants in field locations receive programmatic resources in a timely manner.
- Attend regular review meetings with staff to ensure effective communication and planning.
- Ensure adherence to both donor and Winrock International regulations.
- Ensure adherence to standardized protocols for purchases and procurement.
- Provide on-going logistical assistance as needed by the Regional Director.
- Supervise the Logistics Assistant.
Supervision: The Logistics Manager will report to the Finance and Operations Director, and will collaborate closely with other members of the Senior Management Team.
Qualifications, Background and Experience
- Master’s in business, finance or related field
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in finance, logistics, and procurement with international NGOs
- Experience working on USAID-funded projects and familiarity with USAID procurement guidelines.
- Excellent computer skills (email, Microsoft Word, Excel)
- Ability to multitask
- English language fluency
- Effective interpersonal skills
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ready to work under pressure and beyond working hours as may be required
