Women's Rights Awareness Programme (WRAP) is a national, non-governmental {NGO}, non-profit, human rights organization that exists to identify and educate the community on the causes and effects of gender violence and child abuse, and to offer services that address the needs of abused and violated women and children.

(WRAP) is urgently looking for a Legal Officer and is inviting applications from qualified candidates.

Key duties and responsibilities:
  • Handling all legal work on behalf of the organisation.
  • Running the legal aid project and supervising other related projects.
  • Engaging in research into children and women’s rights.
  • Representing WRAP at workshops meetings and seminars.
  • Coordinating and facilitating meetings.
  • Preparation of concept papers, intervention strategies and proposal writing for various activities.
  • Managing and supervising staff and convening meetings.
  • Any other tasks that may be assigned.
Skills, Experience & Academic Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor of Laws Degree and must be an ADVOCATE of the High Court of Kenya with a current practicing certificate with a minimum of 2 (two) years in actual practice in a busy law firm.
  • Thorough knowledge of the provisions of the children’s Act, UNCRC and ACRWC and other National and international instruments on laws protecting women and children.
  • At least 3 (three) years work experience and an excellent understanding in women and children’s rights human rights/social justice work.
  • Management and supervisory skills.
  • Age between 28 and 35 years of age.
  • Must have a passion, commitment and understanding on children and women’s rights.
  • Very good research, writing and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrate ability in the use of PC based software including Microsoft office suite, word, excel, power point, SPSS and outlook.
  • Flexible and willing to travel frequently.
  • Good oral and written skills in both English and Swahili.
  • Good Communication, interpersonal and people management skills.
  • Good organizational and analytical skills.
  • Honest, transparent and a high level of integrity.
  • Ability to work under pressure, for long hours and to meet deadlines.
  • Previous experience in an NGO setting will be an added advantage.

Job Title: Education Facilitator

Reports to: Education Coordinator

Based at: Lieta village, South Uyoma location in Rarieda District

Purpose of the Role:

To assist Lieta Community to meet the Millennium Development Goals (particularly universal primary education) through facilitation of education programs using integrated community developments initiatives within the community.

The Organization:

Happy Villages is a small NGO working towards a world without extreme poverty.

We are based in Kisumu, Kenya.

Specific Responsibilities:
  • Managing a tertiary education sponsorship program for young women, including reporting, monitoring and evaluating.
  • Assist in conducting, in-servicing; capacity building and professional development of teaching staff in the community.
  • Assist in the preparation of fundraising proposals for education based projects including infrastructure.
  • Assisting in project implementation, developing initiatives under the ongoing projects. This will entail relating with local community structures, CBO’s, local government officials, and international/local organizations within the community.
  • Conducting school community consultative meetings.
  • Assist in the procurement of libraries and learning materials.
  • Preparing monthly reports and budgets on activities.
  • Assisting local education institutions to develop and implement strategic plans.
  • Maintenance and operations of accurate records systems and files for all matters pertaining to the education department.
  • Assist in creating/strengthening advocacy institutions for education (including PTA, community education committees/task forces).
  • Sensitize community to universal primary education.
  • Sensitize the community to the importance for education for girls.
  • Facilitate pre and post primary education programs and initiatives including ECD, mentoring, apprenticeship programs and entrepreneur training.
  • Partner with other Happy Villages departments to integrate literacy campaigns into their trainings.
  • Partner with Happy Villages Health Department to provide health education including sexual and reproductive health.
Skills and Experience

Job Title: Kennel Manager

Type: Fulltime

Reports to: Kennel Master (CEO)

Location: Naivasha, Kenya

Purpose:

To plan and manage all day-to-day operations of a K-9 Working Service Dog kennel, including facility and equipment, human resources and dogs.

Key Accountabilities:

Facility & Equipment Management:
  • Oversee the proper working order and maintenance of buildings, tented camp, grounds, general equipment (generator, freezers, tools, etc.), K-9 equipment, utilities, training apparatus and vehicles. Requires regular assessments and plans for maintenance, repair and/or replacements.
  • Plan for and manage a clean, orderly and aesthetically pleasing compound/facility.
  • Plan and manage construction and repair projects, including vendor selection and oversight.
  • Manage stores (equipment and maintenance and general and medical supplies), track and update inventories and plan and carry out appropriate replacements and procurement.
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with vendors and Marula Estates personnel.
Human Resource Management:
  • Develop and recommend job description modifications and terms of hire.
  • Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate all permanent and temporary kennel employees.
  • Identify personnel or inter-personal issues and manage satisfactory resolution.
  • Oversee personnel records and actions (warnings, reprimands, and terminations), in compliance with Kenya employment laws and company policies.
  • Plan and manage leave rotations, duty and team rosters, training schedules and sick and personal leave.
K-9 Working Service Dog Management:
  • Serve as leadership team facilitator/coordinator/manager by holding regular meetings, sharing information, problem identification and resolution, schedule development/modification, veterinary visits and dawa application, etc.
  • Oversee and assure quality compliance of policies and procedures for feeding, watering, kennel cleaning, grooming and health care of K-9s.
  • Organize and manage delivery of medical attention to K-9s and handlers as required
Administrative Management:
  • Oversee accuracy and maintenance of K-9 Master List, training level list, meat consumption and stock lists and sales information.
  • Manage cash box and reconciliation of cash advances.
  • Supervise Office Manager and assure compliance with operational guidelines, accuracy of information and appropriate follow through.
  • Authorize and oversee mid- and end-month payments, loans and payroll adjustments to employees and temporary workers.
  • Oversee compliance with security protocols.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements and Credentials:

Skills & Knowledge:
  • Strong organizational and management skills and ability to respond appropriately to pressures, deadlines and frequent changes in priorities and schedules.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to supervise and motivate staff
  • Initiative, sound judgment, and ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Language proficiency in English and Swahili.
  • Computer proficiency (hard ware and software) – PC and MacIntosh
  • Valid driver’s license, good driving record, and own vehicle.
Education:
  • University degree.
  • Courses in business, financial, management, and human resource desirable
Experience:
  • Three to five years of management experience with a high degree of autonomy.
