Job Description

One Acre Fund is a rapidly growing organization; increasing the number of sub-locations, districts, and members we serve in each year.

We are seeking two local government officers to serve as: a first point of contact for local officials; an administrator for reports and meetings; a resource for risks and issues involving local officials. They would begin engaging with local government officials through district meetings and forums (DAC, DDC, and DSHF) in Bungoma and Kisii.

This role would report to the government relations analyst and demonstrate a strong understanding of local government structures, have an interest in agriculture, be prepared to travel regularly in western Kenya, and be an effective communicator. The role requires someone with IT skills, and a diploma or undergraduate degree.

Primary Duties of the Local Government Officer
  • Draft reports for new district introductions and quarterly operations updates, in consultation with FDs
  • Arrange new district introduction meetings and track operations meetings
  • Gather information on the activities of government and other non-state actors at the local level
  • Track risks and issues emanating from local officials that affect 1AF’s operations, and coordinate resolutions
  • Report back to operations staff on local government relations, including risk/issue reporting
  • Draft responses to local officials, in consultation with FDs, following reports on risks/issues
  • Maintain key local government official contacts database and track interactions
  • Provide 1AF field staff training on building relations with local officials
  • Provide updates on local government relations at FD meetings
  • Coordinate 1AF involvement in district shows and arrange field days and DAO functions
  • Manage local government engagement budget

Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Promotion for the Millennium Development Goals 2011 - 2014

Call for bids Hydro geological Assessments and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) in Turkana County

Background

Turkana is the poorest county in Kenya, with 94.9% of the population below the absolute poverty line.

The District has amongst the lowest coverage levels for water and sanitation in Kenya, estimated to be as low as 15% and 9% respectively compared to the national average of 31% and 59% respectively.

In response to the above, Oxfam GB, along with partners (Practical Action and IRC), secured funding from the EU for a three year project, 2011 – 2014 for WASH interventions in Turkana to help in closing some of the identified gaps with the aim of contributing towards the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals.

In 40 targeted communities, 40 boreholes will be drilled in order to address need for safe water in the communities. The 40 boreholes will particularly benefit women and children who are traditionally responsible for collecting water and other domestic work.

Therefore Oxfam, IRC and Practical Action seek the services of a suitable consultant to carry out geophysical, hydro-geological assessments and Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA), the result of which will be used to establish the most suitable sites for drilling as well as the most suitable means of drilling to minimize environmental degradation.

Qualifications or Specialized Knowledge / Experience / Requirements
  • Academic qualifications in geology, hydrogeology, water engineering and geophysics
  • Academic qualifications in Environmental Studies, especially Environmental Impact Assessment
  • Over 5 years experience of conducting Environmental Impact Assessments for ground water development projects
  • Over five years experience in hydro-geological studies for borehole drilling
  • Experience in conducting EIAs and successful hydro-geological studies in Arid and Semi Arid areas are essential.
  • Interested consultants must be registered with Water Resources Management Authority (WRMA) and NEMA

General Description of the Role

Logistic officer will be based in Nairobi and he/she will be in charge of providing logistic support to the staff based in Somalia and Kenya. He/she will be answerable to the Logistics Coordinator.

Key Duties
  • Keeping and updating all logistics filing systems
  • Booking MDM cargo as requested on ECHO and UNHAS flights
  • Dealing with Kenya Customs for importation and exportation of goods
  • Ordering items in time after approval of the logistics coordinator
  • Supporting and supplying field projects according to their request and in time
  • Keeping stock cards updated and making sure the real stocks correspond to the stock records
  • Keeping the purchase order overview updated with the items that were sent to the field : the purchase order overview should also be sent to the field
  • Keeping an updated inventory list and ID cards of all MDM permanent properties including field locations
  • Responsible for the maintenance of the MDM cars, logbooks and the supervision of the drivers
  • Responsible for the maintenance of the equipment in the whole office
  • Responsible for the logistical accommodations
  • Organizing accommodation and transport for MDM staff and goods
  • Responsible of the MDM (guest)houses cleanliness and maintenance
Candidate Profile:
  • At least two years experience in a similar position in a nongovernmental organization
  • Minimum of a Bachelors Degree
  • Excellent understanding of spreadsheets and databases and good general computer skills
  • Ability to work in an international team
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision
  • Knowledge of Somalia an asset

Medical Field Officer (Hospital)

This position is a full time position starting immediately.

The ICRC Somalia Delegation in Nairobi is seeking for an experienced and highly motivated person to fill the above mentioned position.

Job Profile:

The Medical Field Officer (Hospital) forms part of the team working under the supervision of the Health program coordinator.

The incumbent will be responsible to provide advice, as well as to support the Delegation’s strategies on diverse issues related to the implementation and monitoring of hospital projects in Somalia.

These duties require an in-depth knowledge of emergency room and surgical care as well as the social, political and economic context of Somalia.

Responsibilities:
  • He / she will be based in Somalia and work within the frame of the health department’s approaches and of the wider delegation strategy for Somalia; he / she will do regular reporting visit to the Delegation in Nairobi;
  • He / she will work in close collaboration with the general ICRC Field Officers based in the different regions of Somalia as well as with the staff of the Somali Red Crescent;
  • He / she will contribute to the collection and analysis of data gathered in the field;
  • He / she will assist the hospital delegate and will report upon the issues assigned by the Department;
  • He / she will contribute to the assessments, design, implementation and monitoring of the hospital-programs;
  • He / she will contribute to the Delegation internal reporting.
Minimum requirements:
  • MD or Surgeon qualification with a sound knowledge of hospital care programs with a strong focus on trauma management
  • At least 2 years of work experience in a similar field; former experience with humanitarian organizations required
  • Significant knowledge of public health assessment methodologies, including design, implementation, analysis and reporting
  • Fluent Somali speaker with excellent knowledge of English
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills
  • Good computer skills
  • Good knowledge of geographically assigned environment
