The Kenya Sugar Research Foundation (KESREF) is a State Corporation in the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries with its headquarters in Kibos, off Kisumu - Miwani Road.
KESREF is mandated to develop and disseminate appropriate technologies for enhanced productivity, value addition and competitiveness’ of the Kenyan Sugar sub-sector.
The Foundation wishes to recruit qualified and experienced individuals on temporary terms for a one year period (12 months) for the following positions through a donor funded cane testing project at South Nyanza Sugar Company (SONY), in Awendo-Migori district.
1. Assistant Laboratory Technologist II / Chemist

The Assistant Laboratory Technologist II/ Chemist will report to the Assistant Director Milling and Processing department.
He/She will be in charge of the unit.
Duties and responsibilities
- Perform Laboratory tests and produce data for scientific investigations.
- Ensure prompt and effective analysis of samples
- Carry out analytical and diagnostic tests
- Collect and maintain cane testing records
- Index and process experimental data
- Ensure safety procedures are adhered to in the Unit
- Ensure the Unit operates within the approved budget.
- Supervise cane testing unit staff
- Prepare and submit reports regularly
Academic qualifications and job requirements
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must possess the following:
- Bachelor’s degree in any of the following disciplines; Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Sugar Technology, Food Science& Technology or equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution.
- At least three years relevant experience
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Good analytical skills
- Be a result oriented team player
- Computer application skills
2. Laboratory Assistant II/ Analyst

He/she will be deployed at the Pilot cane testing unit in South Nyanza Sugar Company, Awendo .
Duties and responsibilities

- Maintenance of cane testing unit equipment
Academic qualifications and job requirements
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must posses the following:
- Diploma in Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry, Food Science & Technology or equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution.
- Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) mean grade C
- At least three years relevant experience
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Good analytical skills
- Be a result oriented team player

3. Plant Operator I

The Plant Operator will report to Assistant Laboratory Technologist II/Chemist in charge of the Unit.
He/She will ensure availability of Core Sampler for core sampling and related duties.
Duties and responsibilities
- Operate and maintain the core sampler
- Ensures the section operates within the approved budget.
- Operate the JEFFCO shredder
- Assist in sample handling
- Ensure prompt trouble shooting and repairs of Core Sampler.
- Ensure effective preventive maintenance of Core Sampler
- Maintain cleanliness of the Core Sampler
- Ensure enforcement of good environment, health and safety practices.
Academic qualifications and job requirements
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must possess the following:
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
- Kenya Certificate of Education means grade C plain or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
- A minimum of three (3) years experience
- Computer application skills
- Good interpersonal and Communication skills
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work long hours.

4. Driver III

Duties and Responsibilities
- Drive motor vehicle as authorized
- Carry out routine checks on the vehicle
- Detect and report defects and malfunctions
- Maintain work systems
- Maintain work tickets of the assigned vehicles
- Maintain cleanliness of the vehicle
Academic qualifications and job requirements
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must possess the following:
- Kenya Certificate of Education means grade D plain or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
- A valid driving license free from any current endorsement(s) for classes A, B, C and D.
- First Aid certificate course lasting not less than one (1) week from St. John Ambulance or Kenya Institute of Highways and building Technology (KIHBT) or any other recognized institution.
- Passed suitability test grade III and Occupational Test for drivers grade III.
- A valid certificate of good conduct from Kenya Police
- At least two (2) years driving experience
- Computer application skills
- Good interpersonal and Communication skills
