Key result areas will include:
  • Coordinate assignments for reporters in liaison with the News Editor;
  • Brief, debrief and advise reporters on video images suitable for a compelling TV story/feature;
  • Sub script for reporters;
  • Translate into Kiswahili stories from correspondents and international news agencies;
  • Participate in creation/formulation of ideas for news, features and current affairs shows;
  • Participate in the planning of big stories and in breaking news;
  • Work with the News Editor to achieve delivery of competitive and flawless news bulletins within set deadlines;
  • Guide  reporters and news staff on quality control measures, in adherence to editorial guidelines;
  • Work hand in hand with News Directors and Video Editors to ensure seamless coordination in editing stories and delivery of newscasts.
Knowledge & Skills requirements:
  • University Degree;
  • Diploma in Journalism/Mass Communication;
  • 5 years working experience as a Senior Reporter;
  • Proficiency in both Kiswahili and English languages, with excellent news judgment and  aggressive;
  • Ability to think outside the traditional news sources and a true newshound;
  • Multimedia editing skills;
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision and cope with pressure and tight deadlines.

Distribution Manager

Gross Salary: 60k-100k
We  are  a media and marketing organization focusing on the youth. Amongst its key products being  a teen publication which is a  Kenya’s leading teen publication and has been in print for the last 11 years is looking to grow its magazine sales consistently and  would like to get a distribution manager with experience and expertise to expand its Distribution department.

Key roles and responsibilities

To supervise magazine distribution from the depot/printer/airport to all retail & school outlets, and co-ordinate with all 3rd parties recruited to ensure magazine is delivered to the Point-of-Sale on time, i.e.

Retail Outlets: Supermarkets, bookstores, convenient stores, cyber cafes, etc.,

Schools: School kiosks, school libraries, school journalism clubs, etc.

To supervise magazine collection (when required) from all the Point-Of-Sale outlets, including schools, supermarkets, bookstores, and  to ensure that all returns collected after the monthly sales cycle.

Check availability, sales of magazine at the retail outlets/school kiosks

a. Retail Outlets: Compile a comprehensive list of retail outlets. In this list, have the names of all the key retail outlet managers, who you can contact to get information on magazine availability and sales. Ensure that you contact ALL retail outlet managers at least once a month. Additionally, ensure that you visit at least 5 retail outlets daily to check availability status of the magazine.

b. Schools: Compile a comprehensive list of school outlets with the contacts of;

i. Kiosk Owners

ii. School Principals/Head teachers

iii. Club Patron (Teachers)

From this contact list, you will be required to check the status of magazine availability, sales or any issues related to magazine sales in the schools by either visiting or calling ALL school outlets at least once a month. Additionally, you will be expected to visit at least 5 school outlets daily to check availability status of the magazine.

Ensure that magazines are properly displayed at the various retail outlets during the in-store visits as clearly defined in the ‘Sales Supervision’ role above

To Supervise the Circulation of the Magazine on daily basis by either contacting and/or visiting all outlets where the magazine is available to the reader.

Develop strategies to ensure growth of circulation and subscription database

a. Retail Outlet Growth: Co-ordinate with retail outlet distributors e.g. to ensure optimum sales at retail outlets and ensure the laid out monthly, quarterly and annual targets are met

b. School Outlet Growth: To co-ordinate with school outlets distributors, kiosk owners, school heads, etc.to

ensure optimum sales in schools and ensure laid out monthly, quarterly and annual targets are met

Prepare weekly reports and present findings and concerns to Senior Management. The weekly reports will highlight, amongst other key issues;

a. Magazine Distribution from depot to retail outlets/schools

b. Magazine Availability reports for both retail outlets and schools

Growth strategies updates and reports

Every quarter, come up with creative ideas on how the magazine can be marketed/sold at all retail outlets. The ideas should be in a report format and must include, amongst other details; description of ideas, implementation timetable, implementation outlets, projected sales numbers, etc.

Liaise and manage all retail outlets, schools & vendors to make sure they are adequately handled

The role

To act as the IT strategic business partner to the regional SLTs. To act as the liaison between the field/country office IT staff and the regions, as well as a strategic liaison between the regions and the centre.

Qualifications and experience
  • Directly supporting the agency’s strategic IT initiatives by working with Save the Children International regional management, country management, country-based IT staff and Save the Children members as needed, leading on the regional and country implementation of IT projects
  • Directly supporting the country office IT staff where required, traveling to and/or assisting with all computer related matters, and project specific needs
  • Working through country office IT staff to implement IT guidelines, standards, policies and strategy throughout the region, using influencing skills to ensure they are adopted
  • Training and capacity-building field/country office IT support staff located in the geographical regions, whether relating to hardware, software or policies and procedures
  • Collaborating with Save the Children International management to develop technical solutions to allow the organisation to implement its strategy
  • Collaborating with Save the Children International management to develop, document and implement procedures and standards for field office-based software, hardware and network infrastructure
  • Responsible for the documentation of field office IT infrastructure and/or systems as needed
  • Rolling out and supporting new applications, systems and upgrades in the region
  • Traveling to support IT needs during emergency operations, as required
  • Completing the establishment of and maintaining the regional office IT and communication facilities, including video conferencing.
