Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Oversee laboratory service in the FACES program
  • Develop laboratory standard operating procedures and annual work plans for the program.
  • Take lead role in laboratory budget development.
  • Provide guidance on budget implementation and align it with the annual work plan
  • Represent FACES program in all high level laboratory services related meetings
  • Convene periodic meetings of FACES laboratory District Program officers-

  • Ensure that laboratory teams are providing quality services to all clients seeking laboratory services in line with recommended guidelines

  • Mentorship, and Supervision of lab staff in the program
Requirements
  • Minimum of a Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences or a similar qualification from a recognized medical training institution and be registered with the board.
  • Additional training in QA/QC and GCLP will be an added advantage
  • At least 4 year’s experience preferably within a busy HIV care program.
  • Basic computer use and common software packages i.e. word, excel, access and internet
  • The position requires a self-motivated flexible individual who can work independently to improve lab operations.

Job Outline: The job holder will be responsible and accountable for all raw milk collection logistics and quality control activities of Keringet Milk Chilling Plant. 

The jobholder will work under the supervision of the chilling plant manager and will be based at KCSEED Kimalany office 2 kilometers from Keringet town along Keringet Molo tarmac road. 

S/he will directly supervise milk graders based at several milk collection centres(MCC). 

S/he will partner with KCSEED programme manager, food and economic security officer and other key partners in the dairy and livestock production industry.

Reporting to: Milk Chilling Plant Manager

The jobholder will be responsible for the following activities:

Procurement, quality control, chilling and dispatch of Raw Milk
  • S/he will ensure that all milk received and sold by the plant satisfies the prescribed quality requirements of the Dairy plant and its customers.
  • S/he will be in charge of all cooling plant and field quality operations and management, and will be an advisor to the Management Committee on milk quality issues.
  • Responsible for organization quality management; planning, mobilizing and organizing resources, leading the chilling plant quality team, controlling quality enhancing facilities and equipment, and coordinating and controlling quality issues.
  • Will supervise the performance of all the quality staff members, develop work plans and oversee their implementation, be accountable for quality decisions related to milk procurement and supplier.
  • Development and implementation of milk quality policy, strategies, work plan, budget for the organization including providing technical assistance and training of staff and farmers on milk quality issues.
  • Documentation of milk procurement and quality processes in KCSEED Milk chilling plant including preparation of periodic milk procurement and quality reports to be submitted to the board.
  • Advice the chilling plant Manage and milk collection clerks on milk quality issues and conduct farmer/ field visits on periodic basis or in case there are milk quality problems which need his/her attention.
  • S/he ensures maintenance of proper hygiene standards at the chilling plant and ensure the quality of milk in the coolers is not compromised. Conduct regular Milk testing as established by the chilling plant manager.
  • Facilitation of budgeting and procurement of milk quality facilities and equipment for the company.
  • Custodian of milk quality equipment for the company and proper handling of plant machinery in accordance with the defined operations and maintenance procedures.
  • Manage the maintenance and service calendar of the quality equipment and Liaise with chilling plant approved Technician to ensure that the equipment and facilities are in working condition.
  • Promotion of linkages and good public relations with the stakeholders especially farmers.
  • Ensure efficient transportation of milk to the processors without compromising on quality issues
  • Design and manage raw milk collection logistics right from the farmer to milk processor.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Chilling Plant Manager.
  • Ensure that the plants’ operations and status are within the safeguards of the law, contract and market quality standards and ensure that all licenses for quality purposes are in place.
Requirements:
  • Diploma in Dairy Technology or food science
  • Minimum 3 year hands-on experience in a chilling or milk processing plant.
  • Well versed with the local and international regulations pertaining to the dairy industry

1. Procurement, chilling and Marketing of Raw Milk
  • Design and manage raw milk collection logistics right from the farmer to milk processor.
  • Manage the milk chilling process and transfer logistics between the chilling plant and milk processor and ensure milk dispatch documentation and delivery notes issued by chilling plant to accompany milk dispatch and the receipts received from processor to acknowledge receipt of the milk are reconciled daily.
  • Organize and lead milk supplier mobilization and registration meetings
  • Plan raw milk marketing and sales activities and review results and expectations with Quality supervisor.
  • Ensure the milk supplier’s database is updated daily and statements delivered to suppliers on a daily basis.
  • Ensure milk supplier’s payroll is prepared and money is wired to milk suppliers accounts on time.
  • Establish daily raw milk supply targets for individual milk grading clerks and jointly develop plans to achieve them.
2. Reporting
  • Prepare and deliver (and where necessary, present) to the persons designated by the GM, timely and accurate reports in accordance with the formats given.
  • Be responsible for setting periodic targets within the business plan, in conjunctions with the GM, and directing the business to achieve, or supersede, those targets.
  • Facilitate and provide all known information to assist in internal and external audits as ordered by the GM.
3. Total Customer Satisfaction
  • The Chilling plant Manager provides quality services to milk suppliers and provides quality products to milk processors.
  • Establish a feedback mechanism that positively and quickly responds to milk suppliers and processors concerns.
4. Staff Supervision Training and Development
  • The chilling plant manager will be ultimately responsible for the performance of all chilling plant staff hence 
  • S/he will participate in supervision of all chilling plant staff as well as in making hiring and termination recommendations.
  • Developing and communicating chilling plant goals and results to chilling plant employees in liaison with the General Manager
  • Develop and review budgets and work plans with chilling plant supervisor monthly, quarterly, half yearly and yearly
  • Determining workloads and schedules, assigning chilling plant employee responsibilities and maintaining job descriptions
  • Undertake employee performance reviews.
  • Organizing and holding regular employee meetings
5. Effective Business Management
  • Be responsible for ensuring profitability and growth of the Dairy plant and making timely decisions and actions to facilitate this.
  • The manager executes the chilling plant business plans (key elements include: fiscal responsibilities, manpower planning and marketing).
  • Be responsible for planning, supervising and control of the resources of the plant including: staff, equipment, facilities, finances, stocks, etc. 
  • Ensure that efficiency and sustainability are achieved wherever possible
6. Public Relations
  • Building and maintaining positive relationships with community members, government departments and other collaborators, shareholders, suppliers, customers, and the general business community
7. Statutory Compliance
  • Ensure that plants` operations and status are within the safeguard of the law and ensure that all licenses are in place.
  • Implement and ensure all contracts between the plant and other business partners, i.e. milk processing contracts are up to date.
8. Perform any other duties as assigned by the GM
 
Qualifications and experience:
  • Degree in Dairy Technology, food science, Agri-business, Economics or equivalent
  • More than 4 years hands on management experience in related field
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong team player and leader with the ability to work across multiple functions and discipline.
  • Experience in working for Dairy Cooperative/Company will be an added advantage.

Job Title: Clerk of Works Officer

 Main Purpose of Role: To supervise all construction activities taking place at KCSEED programme site.

Terms: Contract, nine months

 Duties and responsibilities;
  • To Interpret Architectural, structural, mechanical drawings
  • To develop design, and work programs for all construction under KCSEED
  • To Interpret, implement and reinforce regulatory requirements related to safety and environmental standards in all construction sites and as per the OSHA guidelines
  • To carry out on-site assessment prior to commencing work to ensure that the job is ready, and addressing any concerns
  • To Coordinate and supervise all KCSEED construction activities
  • To overseeing the execution of the work, including quality and production, ensuring that the crew works to job specifications and follows the plans
  • To make detailed periodical (weekly, monthly and quarterly) reports on all construction work.
  • To update KCSEED management on the quantities of materials used on every stage of construction
  • To Coordinating the inspection of works in collaboration with the Lead Consultant and the District Public Works Officer
  • To prepare the interim payment certificates and completion certificates for the construction
  • To take measurements and samples on site to make sure that the work and the materials meet the specifications and quality standards
  • To monitor the construction activities against a progress chart(Approved work programme) and reporting of timelines of the activities
  • To Prepare and monitor the execution of daily, weekly and monthly work plan in collaboration with the contractors
  • To collaborate with KCSEED stores clerk in managing the procurement, storage and issuance of construction materials from store to construction sites and monitoring the usage of the materials by contractors
  • To prepare drawings, bill of quantities and tender documents for new constructions works and contractual documents.
  • To organize and attend various site meetings between contractors, construction committee and consultants and submit written progress reports and meeting minutes.
Reporting to: Programme Manager (Team Leader) Keringet Global Village

 Qualifications and work experience:
  • Diploma in Building and Construction, Building Technology, Civil Engineering or Construction Management from a recognized training institute.
  • Minimum 3 years with a broad based background in construction industry, at least 2 years of which was mandatory site work
  • Certificate in Occupational Safety Health Administration (OSHA) would be an added advantage.
  • Membership to the Institute of Clerks of Works of Kenya will be added advantage.
  • Knowledge of Quantity Surveying would be an added advantage.
  • Very strong IT skills required with extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office/Excel and email
  • Must possess knowledge of Auto CAD and Arch CAD
  • Have a wide understanding of the building industry, including knowledge of materials, trades, methods and legal requirements
