Reporting to: Sweden-Norad Grant Manager and Regional Programme Manager for Secure Incomes and Social Protection 

Relations with Others:

  • Affiliates, partners, Country  Development Programmes - to support, train, monitor and evaluate in the implementation of a Sweden-Norad supported project and keeping in line with the wider Health, HIV & AIDS and Social Protection strategy of the EWCARDC;
  • Regional Development Centre staff – to ensure synergy and linkages across HelpAge thematic areas, Advocacy and Communications and promote donor compliance, build the knowledge base at the EWCARDC and ensure consistency of approach in HelpAge International’s work  in the region and to ensure the development of complementary activities;
  • Development  organizations working on HIV and Social Protection – to share  information  and influence  changes in policies  and practices;
  • Relevant national and regional Health, HIV and social protection networks, forums and working groups, the media and associations of PLHIV to ensure  that we are building appropriate  alliances in our quest for inclusive  policies and programmes;
  • Staff and volunteers of NGOs, INGOs and Governments to ensure maximum coordination, disseminate learning and sharing of experiences.
Overall Purpose of the Job: To work with the Secure Incomes and Social Protection Programme Manager for the effective implementation, monitoring and reporting of the Sweden-Norad supported project in five countries. 

Job Activities
  • Provide ongoing daily support to HelpAge partners in the project for its effective and timely implementation within the framework of the donor and project contracts;
  • Support the Programme Manager to consolidate narrative reports from partners in five countries and to develop quality control mechanisms to ensure efficient reporting to Sweden-Norad;
  • Support the Programme Manager in strengthening best practices in governance in partner organizations;
  • Support the implementation of Traditional Healers’ and Practitioners component within Sweden-Norad project;
  • Build the capacity of partners to develop and implement sound HIV & AIDS and SP programmes, through effective training events and timely mentoring;
  • Liaise with the Monitoring & Evaluation Officer in data quality assurance issues and the Programme Officer to ensure consistency in data for learning, advocacy work and preparation of report;
  • Lead on the research on LGBT that is planned under the Sweden-Norad programme;
  • Contribute to the development and dissemination of information on key lessons learnt in the HIV and Social Protection work within and beyond the HelpAge network in Africa and globally;
  • Develop links and share experiences with other stakeholders in order to promote the mainstreaming of ageing issues in HIV & AIDS and SP, poverty reduction and advocacy programmes;
  • Participate in the activities of the HelpAge International Africa Regional Development Centre and undertake additional duties as requested to achieve the Regional Development Centre’s and HelpAge International’s overall objectives.
Extent of Authority: The post-holder will make day-to-day decisions regarding the implementation of work within an agreed set of Performance Objectives worked out with the post-holder’s line manager.

Person Specification

Essential
  • Degree level of education in Social Sciences for Development Studies
  • A minimum of three years experience in working with NGOs managing and implementing development programmes;
  • Experience in advocating issues affecting vulnerable groups and influencing policies and strategies in line with this;
  • An in-depth understanding of HIV & AIDS and Social Protection related issues in Africa;
  • Extensive experience in programme development;
  • Experience in institutional strengthening and partner capacity building;
  • Appreciation of and experience in operational research and its application in programming;
  • Understanding of participatory knowledge management and willingness to document and disseminate lessons learnt;
  • Experience in the operation of an international development organization;
  • Fluent spoken and written English;
  • Ability to write narrative of a standard required by international donor organizations and interpret financial reports;
  • Skills in working with local and national agencies and to represent the work of HelpAge International to them and their beneficiaries;

Social Worker 
 
Reporting to the Senior Community Services officer, the Social worker will provide support to people who have been socially excluded, experiencing crisis, violence, strenuous relationship or a challenging situation with guidance, counseling, giving direction for access to various services and social support

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collect data of survivors from incident recorder GBIVIMIS Gender Based Violence, traumatic incidences, social excluded persons, pregnant/ teenage mothers, persons with disability and elderly.
  • Debriefing, reassurance and maintaining confidentiality of all data gathered from the client.
  • Carry out interviews with the identified client and if need be with the family for referral to the most appropriate service.
  • Provide professional and confidential debriefings for identify cases requiring psycho-social support.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports of clients served and referred to various services.
  • To follow-up cases that have been referred for other services/agencies.
  • Have empathy, tact and patience in dealing with clients especially those that are slow to change or do not accept to be helped.
  • Generate a report on case by case progress.
  • Continue debriefing support to the client for full healing process.
  • Continuous assessment of social welfare of the client and any additional referrals.
  • Create awareness on the existing SGBV referral pathway and carry out family/couple based group therapy.
Professional qualification & Experience
  • Background education degree in Social work with skills in counselling and communication skills
  • Diploma in Social Work with 5years of work experience in handling community and social welfare programmes.
  • With a wide experience in handling various groups that require social welfare support, survivors of SGBV, traumatic incidences, women at risk, single parent, vulnerable families and persons with disability.

Job Vacancy: Divisional Mobilizers

The Nyanza Reproductive Health Society (NRHS) is a non-profit organization with its headquarters in Kisumu dedicated to improving reproductive health of men and women in Kenya. 


NRHS has several projects researching on HIV prevention; it runs support groups for PLWHA and MARPS, and is working with the Ministry of Health to scale up male circumcision for HIV prevention in various parts of Nyanza Province.
 

NRHS is seeking to hire Divisional Mobilizers in Rachuonyo South and Rachuonyo North Districts.   
 

Duties will include:

  • Ensure that set targets for his/her team in the area of operation are shared out to the teams and ensure the same is met.
  • Coordinate all social mobilization activities in the division which include organizing for all the divisional social mobilization activities in coordination with the District Social Mobilization Coordinator and the clinical teams.
  • Enhance teamwork amongst the Divisional Peer Educators under his/her jurisdiction.
  • Carry out mapping of the Division of operation together with the District Mobilization division, number of males in the target group, number of circumcised males, identification of all upcoming activities as per the community calendar the project may need to take part in within the division.
  • Community liaison officer in the District/Division of operation. Divisional Mobilizers will be expected to be key contact people for NRHS in their areas of operation. They will strive to build goodwill between NRHS and the community. As such, they must have contacts of the county administration and in their districts/division and continuously cultivate good relations with them.
  • Participate in the process of identifying the Peer Educators to review strategies and share on best practices.
  • Ensure tracking and reporting of all mobilization activities in the Division, including number of materials supplied, targets set, challenges experienced and best practices noted.
  • Ensure follow ups on agreed activities/strategies.
  • Perform other tasks as directed by the District Mobilizer.

Required Minimum Qualifications & Experience:

  • Ability to lead, motivate and work in a team
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Diploma-level qualification in social work and community development or related studies

Specific Duties
  • Screen patients for HAART protocol  and social support
  • Complete Social Work Screening form for patients in the HAART Protocol
  • Conducts home assessments for patient’s lost to follow up and those requiring a home visit.
  • Maintain accurate and up to date records of lost follow up, in coordination with the data officer.

Counselor
