ii. Organizational Context and Scope
 
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is committed to ensuring orderly and humane governance of migration, promoting international cooperation on migration issues, and assisting in the search for practical solutions to migration issues.
 
IOM’s Partnership on Health and Migration in East and Southern Africa (PHAMESA II) is a Programme in IOM which covers select countries in the East and Southern Africa region. 

The four year Programme follows the successes of PHAMESA I (2010-2013), and Partnership on HIV and Migration in Southern Africa (PHAMSA I and II – 2003-2010).
 
The overall objective of PHAMESA II is to: Contribute to reduced health vulnerability of people
affected by the migration process in East and Southern Africa. 

This will be achieved through four interrelated outcomes thus: 

1. Improved health literacy among migrants and migration affected communities in identified spaces of vulnerability; 

2. Increased availability, accessibility and acceptability of services that improved health in identified spaces of vulnerability; 

3. Evidence based policy and/or legal instruments developed or amended at regional, national and subnational levels to realize migrants’ right to health; and

4. Improved sustainability of migration and health responses in the region.

iii. Core Functions/Responsibilities

 
Under the direct supervision of the Regional Migration Health Promotion Coordinator for East and Horn of Africa, the incumbent will be responsible for the coordination of the migration health promotion and assistance programme in Kenya.
 
The incumbent will in particular:
 
1. Implement and coordinate the health promotion and assistance programme activities, including the Partnership on Health and Mobility in East and Southern Africa II (PHAMESA II) programme, in Kenya;
 
2. Coordinate, the urban migrant health programme, including community-based activities in the Eastleigh Community Wellness Centre;
 
3. Support UNAIDS in planning the next UN Joint Programme of Support on HIV/AIDS;
 
4. Represent the organization at important national meetings;
 
5. Serve as a technical resource to government counterparts, ;
 
6. Provide on-going liaison and technical support to the Department of Health Promotion in establishing and maintaining the technical working group for migrant health and the steering committee;

7. Liaise with relevant UN and government counterparts at the national, county and sub-county levels, to move programme implementation forward;

8. Liaise with universities in Kenya in order to implement the memoranda of understanding on migration health, seek joint research opportunities, deliver lectures and seminars as well as facilitate hosting of internships within IOM;

9. Coordinate programme components, including technical cooperation project and activities, related to health assistance for crisis-affected populations;

10. Perform such other duties that may be assigned by the supervisor.

v. Required Qualifications and Experience
 
a) Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine or Nursing from a recognized university; 

b) Registered with the relevant Professional Body (Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board or Nursing Council of Kenya); 

c) Additional educational qualification (Bachelor’s Degree) in Public Health an advantage;

d) Minimum of 2 years continuous professional working experience, preferably with experience in migration health, epidemiology and/or international public health; 

e) Health sector experience in Africa an advantage; 

f) Ability and willingness to work in hardship areas and difficult situations;

g) Teamwork orientated, capacity to work independently, knowledgeable about gender issues, personal commitment, efficient and flexible; 

h) Good interpersonal relationship and ability to work in a multicultural environment; 

i) Excellent writing, communication and negotiation skills; 

j) Excellent IT skills including standard Word processing, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet research and e-mail communication; 

k) Great familiarity with statistical packages such as SPSS/STATA.

vi. Required Languages
 
Required: Excellent command of written and spoken English and Kiswahili 

Advantageous: Working knowledge of other migrant languages (e.g. Arabic, French, Somali and Tigrinya) is an added advantage.

Develatech Internship Program

The company was successfully selected as one of the most potential start-ups receiving a grant of USD22,000 from the Climate Innovation Center Kenya to help expand its business. 

So far, Develatech has about 100 clients enjoying the benefits of this unique product.
 
The founder of Develatech, Jonathan Baker has been designing and manufacturing cookstoves for
the last 5 years and is considered an expert in this field.
 
About the internship program
 
Develatech has a strong strategic plan in 2014 to develop its business into a next level, so the
company is looking for highly qualified candidates to play significant roles for its business
development program.

 The interns are required to commit working for minimum 3 months (fulltime)
or 6 months (part-time). 

This is an unpaid position but there will be chances for interns to
become official employees based on his/ her performance and the business demand.
