Key Responsibilities
  • Installation of lifts as outlined in installation manuals, software and any documented requirements as per the customer’s specification;
  • Inspection of wiring connections, control panel hookups, door installations, and alignments and clearances of cars and hoist ways to ensure that equipment operate properly;
  • Test newly installed equipment to ensure that it meets specifications;
  • Ensure that safety regulations and building codes are met, and complete service reports verifying conformance to standards;
  • Disassemble defective units, and repair or replace parts;
  • Provide scheduled routine service to clients’ lifts and escalators in accordance with procedures outlined in the SABC and manufacturers’ procedure manuals;
  • Identifying opportunity through repair sales;
  • Providing certificates on work done on the job requisitions;
  • Ensuring that the Schindler brand is noticed by promoting safety, quality and good customer care when on  site;
  • Report writing on the scheduled servicing or installations done.
Skills, Experience and Qualifications
  • Higher Diploma in Electrical/ Mechanical Engineering
  • 5 years experience in handling installation, servicing and repair of escalators and elevators of various models.
  • Ability to interpret technical manuals and installation drawings both mechanical and electrical
  • Proven project management skills
  • Ability to work under strict deadlines with minimal or no supervision.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Prepare purchase requests, payment vouchers and all supporting documentation as required by RI accounting procedures
  • Prepare Requests for Funds each month through close coordination with programme and support staff

In 2011 we launched mobile clinic services providing antenatal care at community sites around northeastern Nairobi, and earlier this year we opened our first maternity on the Eastern bypass just before Ruiru town.

The World Agroforestry Centre is an independent research institution which generates science-based knowledge about the complex role trees play in agricultural landscapes and rural livelihoods. 
The Centre’s headquarters are located in Nairobi, which also hosts the African Women in Agricultural Research and Development (AWARD) project of the CGIAR Gender and Diversity Program.

AWARD is a pioneering project to boost the talent pool of African women in the agricultural sciences. 
AWARD delivers career development fellowships to hundreds of women in agricultural institutions throughout sub-Saharan Africa.  
The project covers 11 countries: Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia.

Main Purpose of the Job

AWARD requires expertise to provide strategic, tactical and operational support to the AWARD Director in relation to four critical issues:

1. Coordination of AWARD’s science cornerstone, including smooth implementation of the advanced science training (especially regarding research attachments) and training in science skills (research proposal and science writing as well as presentation skills) regarding content of such courses and development of appropriate training material including gender-responsiveness of agricultural research)
 
2. Design and implementation of a specific training course on gender-responsiveness in agricultural research for development focused on collection and interpretation of gender disaggregated data, preferably in partnership with renowned capacity building institutions and preferably to be delivered by African trainers to be trained on this subject
 
3. Support towards monitoring and evaluation and reporting of the science cornerstone activities in AWARD II
 
4. Representation of AWARD in science / research related forums with a view of building and strengthening AWARD’s partnerships with relevant sub-regional, Africa-wide, and international stakeholders in ARD with a view to support sustainability of the AWARD approach.

AWARD’s science cornerstone is critical for the program’s success, particularly in the areas of gender-responsiveness in ARD and planning and implementation of competitive research attachments and other advanced science training, but also regarding a strategy for sustainability and forward planning. 
Consequently, the AWARD Team requires support in designing and coordination of implementation of these activities including selection of partners and trainer and handling host institution selection and follow-up, planning and implementation of science skills courses, and reflection / forward planning exercises.

Having regard to the current team composition in the science cornerstone (the science coordinator is supported by a science cornerstone officer) this role requires a full-time regionally recruited position.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the leadership of the AWARD Director, the AWARD Science Coordinator will:
  • lead AWARD’s science cornerstone, in particular regarding competitive advanced science training of fellows and content of AWARD’s science skills courses
  • supervise and guide the AWARD Science Cornerstone Officer and Science Cornerstone Assistant in smooth implementation of all activities of AWARD’s science cornerstone

  • PhD in a field of science relevant to sub-Saharan African agriculture
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in the development and management of research and development (R&D) projects in Africa

  • Proven experience in M&E of science capacity building and science projects/programs
  • Widely networked and well regarded within the sub-Saharan African science system: universities, national agricultural research systems, research networks, etc
  • Experience in gender responsiveness in ARD as well as inclusiveness of work places
  • Good written and spoken English. Good written and oral communication skills in French are highly desirable

About our organization


The World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) is an independent research institution which generates science-based knowledge about the diverse roles that trees play in agricultural landscapes, and to use its research to advance policies and practices, and their implementation that benefit the poor and the environment. 
ICRAF is guided by the broad development challenges pursued by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR).

Main purpose of the job

The main purpose of the position will be to oversee the management of ICRAF’s Agroforestry Genetic Resources.

Specific responsibilities
  • Managing conservation and documentation of the Agroforestry tree collection in the seed genebanks and field genebanks to international standards.
  • Coordinating and managing viability and germplasm health monitoring.
  • Managing distribution of seeds from all ICRAF collections in accordance with provisions under the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (ITPGRFA) and country specific policies as relevant.
  • Planning and managing genetic resources characterization activities.
  • Organizing and managing activities and resources in the genebank and molecular laboratories.
  • Stratification of the collection to ensure the most efficient management whilst maintaining standards of quality and safety.
  • Liaising with genetic resources staff from national partner institutes in all regions where ICRAF operates to facilitate collection,conservation and use of  Agroforestry tree collection.
  • Developing proposals with colleagues, fund raising and monitoring progress against donor funded projects.
  • Developing and supervising research to promote the use of improved germplasm of exotic and indigenous tree species while avoiding problems associated with invasive species.
  • Supervising, overseeing and facilitating development of ICRAF’s GRU databases (relevant for conservation and use) specifically for agroforestry tree seed sources, high value AF tree provenances, improved materials, i.e., clones and varieties and field genebanks.
  • Contributing towards policy development with the International Treaty for Plant Genetic Resources and other relevant instruments, along with national policy frameworks.
  • Supervising research fellows linked to ICRAF Genetic Resources Unit.
  • Ensuring Genebank collaboration with other relevant CGIAR Research Programs (CRPs) and Science Domains.
Requirements
  • PhD in Agronomy, Genetic Resources, Plant Physiology or any other related subject.
  • Knowledge of statistical packages.
  • At least seven years of experience in managing genetic resources collections, laboratory management or plant health for genebanks.
  • The applicant should display an understanding of international policies guiding access and benefit sharing for plant genetic resources and a proven publication record including scientific articles.
