Intern - Knowledge and Information Management

The Regional AIDS Training Network has an opportunity for a fresh graduate to undertake a six month internship programme at its Secretariat in Nairobi, Kenya.

The objectives of the internship programme are:
·       To provide fresh graduates with important practical experience to complement their field of study and at the same time be of benefit to the Regional AIDS Training Network.
·       To enable fresh graduates to better understand the operations of an international network organization.
·       To expose the students to Capacity Building on HIV and AIDS in the East and Southern Africa region.
Duties and Responsibilities

Under the overall management and administrative leadership of the Knowledge and Information Manager, the incumbent will perform the following functions:
·       First line helpdesk support under the supervision of ICT Specialist
·       Data entry: Under the supervision of ICT Specialist, update courses on the website and any other information under the HIT section of the website
·       Updating mailing lists: both in-house and online mailing lists.
·       Updating and storing KIM (Knowledge and Information Management) documents such as photos
·       Safe keeping of hard copies of CDs, KIM resources etc
·       Media monitoring for HIV-related stories.
·       Help in data entry on workplace databases.
·       Participate in setting up and implementation of workplace systems: E-Library, Online databases and directories etc.
Minimum Requirements

Candidates should meet the following:
·       Have a diploma/degree in Information Science, Management Information Systems (MIS) Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or an equivalent combination in education and work experience.
·       Be knowledgeable about the windows operating systems environments (Windows 2008, 2003 server, Windows 7, XP desktop operating systems etc.
·       Sound working knowledge of Internet/Intranet technologies
·       Sound working knowledge on database concepts.
·       Microsoft certifications will be an added advantage.
·       Exceptional attention to detail and organization
·       A positive attitude and superior work ethic
Selection Criteria

Candidates will be assessed against the following:
·       Extent of familiarity with database technologies.
·       Extent of familiarity with and experience in building data driven Web applications using the PHP and MySQL framework with several successful public deployment.
·       Extent of familiarity with ICT based approaches to knowledge exchange and information management by the HIV and AIDS stakeholders in the ESA region
·       Extent of familiarity and innovativeness with working with multiple stakeholders and varied information needs and approaches for knowledge and information management, including using ICT
·       Extent of both oral and written communication skills and time management skills
·       Extent of analytical abilities, technical aptitude and proven ability to solve problems
·       Extent of abilities to work in a quick paced, evolving environment

Programme/Executive Assistant’s Job Profile

The principle duties and responsibilities of the Programme/Executive Assistant will include but will not be limited to the following;

Management of Executive Director’s office:
·       Providing secretarial support to the Executive Director
·       Coordinating the ED’s office logistics and diary, including itineraries, hotel bookings, scheduling of meetings etc.
·       Maintaining a comprehensive record filing system;
Communications:
·       Assisting in drafting concept notes and preparing reports
·       Assisting in research and analysis on issues of relevance to the CCP-AU’s overall mandate and objectives

Event Management and Organization:

·       Liaising and networking with CCPAU stakeholders
·       Coordinating logistics to CCP-AU events, including travel and hotel accommodation for the organization’s stakeholders and partners
Accounting and Administration:
·       Providing general administration and accounting support to the organization
·       Coordinating with CCP-AU service providers and consultants
·       Undertaking any other duties as may be assigned by the Executive Director
Skills & Qualifications
·       Degree in social studies, development studies, international relations or any other equivalent
·       Must be bilingual (French/English)
·       Must have a keen interest in development/policy issues affecting or impacting on the African continent
·       Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
·       Should have a minimum of three years’ working experience;

WWF - The Global Conservation Organization, Kenya Country Office (WWF - KCO), is seeking to recruit a Project Officer - Community Mobilization to be based in Naivasha.

Reporting to the Project Executant, the Project Officer will work on full time basis to ensure that the project outputs and activities in his / her area of assignment are carried out as laid down in the project documents and are articulated to meet the laid down project objectives.

The Incumbent will participate in strategic partnership-building at the project level.

Major duties include:
·       Undertaking project implementation, partner identification and develop project lateral and vertical partnership, roles and capacity, and provide strategic analysis and engagement approaches for the partners to ensure active participation in delivering the project vision and goal;
·       Harmonize partner interests and support joint activities amongst partners, including liaising with local communities, partners, local authorities and the government including relevant government agencies;
·       Build effective conflict abetment and resolution intervention among the different project communities/partners to ensure harmonious involvement among all stakeholders;
·       Work closely and strengthen viable local community structures for effective project implementation;
·       Work closely with the Project Resource Economist and WWF-KCO Policy Officer and other consultants to understand the difficulties local communities have on the use of natural resources in the basin and develop a sustainable strategy;
·       Undertake project education programme and assist in the development of project education and communication materials for sharing information, represent and share the vision and goals of WWF project at all levels.
Required Qualifications and Experience;
·       A University Degree in Sociology, Community Development or closely related field;
·       At least 5 years working experience in Community development and mobilization with a strong bias towards community based approaches;
·       Experience in designing and pre-testing and implementing community and stakeholder mobilization and organization processes;
·       Proven community mobilisation skills are essential;
·       Excellent inter-personal skills, with the ability to network and to develop and maintain strong relationships at all levels, both internally and with local communities, government agencies;
·       Excellent oral and written communications skills in English;
·       Excellent knowledge of Kiswahili and local cultures are added advantages.

icipe wishes to urgently recruit a suitable person to fill the position of Graphic Artist to be based at Duduville campus, Kasarani, Nairobi. This is a local (national) position that offers a two-year contract that is renewable.

The main objective of the position is to provide quality services in typesetting, design, layout and graphics for all icipe publications and in particular provide expertise in the graphics and imagesetting area as DTP Designer/Imagesetter.

Reporting to the Director of Finance and Administration the Graphic Artist will perform the following duties, among others:

Responsibilities
·       Typeset, design and format layouts of texts for manuscripts, newsletters, brochures and other icipe publications, using desktop publishing and graphic design software.
·       Prepare and suggest layout for icipe logos, publications covers and master copies.
·       Design icipe business cards, staff IDs, advertisements and special occasions cards as necessary.
·       Conceptualise and produce colour schemes for various icipe publications, posters, advertisements and information material.
·       Liaise with the Scientific Illustrator and Typesetter regarding control and design of originals for printing.
·       Keep a small inventory of desktop publishing and graphics design software, and report to SPO in new software needs acquisition.
·       Produce work and liaise with scientists and other professional staff on completion of tasks.
Requirements
·       Be a holder of a Bachelor’s degree in Arts/Design.
·       An advanced certificate in Computer Graphics/DTP.
·       Proficiency in using Apple Macintosh computers is mandatory.
·       Working knowledge of graphics design software packages.
·       At least five years working experience as a Graphic Artist in an international organisation or newspaper.
·       Work with minimum supervision.
·       Good communication skills.
·       Proficiency in computer skills (MS Office suite in addition to DTP expertise).
·       Proficiency in the most important professional graphics design software, such as Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Acrobat and Illustrator, and CorelDRAW, is essential.
