Reporting to the Senior Manager Database Administration, the holder of the role is responsible for administering ALL Safaricom  databases, including but not limited to, Oracle databases, SQL databases and Oracle E-Business Applications; the holder will also Setup and administer Oracle RAC, Data guard, Configure TSM and other backup solutions, in addition  provide 3rd line support to all database based applications.

The job holder’s key responsibilities will be to:
  • Create test plans, test data sets and perform automated testing to ensure all components of the developed database systems meet specifications;
  • Work directly with the IT support personnel and teams to resolve issues identified and escalated during daily operations;
  • Perform root cause analysis for recurring incidents , formalize test plans and implements troubleshooting procedures;
  • Conduct Backup and  Recovery Management for the all assigned databases;
  • Perform Installations, upgrade, patching, configuration & cloning of oracle databases and applications;
  • Conduct Performance Tuning of the production databases.
The ideal candidate should possess the following skills & competencies:
  • Degree in Computer Science or Technical related Field;
  • With at least 3 years hands on Experience in Managing large databases and Oracle E-Business system administration .Experience in Oracle RAC, Data guard and RMAN will be added advantage;
  • Certification –OCP DBA; Oracle Apps Systems Administration; SQL Server Administration;
  • Hands on Unix experience;
  • High aptitude: Ability to learn and understand  new processes/system enhancements quickly;
