Invitation to Participate in a Competition for Designing Logo and Motto
 
Marsabit County Public Service Board was established under chapter 13 of the Constitution of Kenya and subsequent legislation of County Government Act Article 57. 

It is a corporate body with perpetual succession and a seal; and capable of suing and being sued in its corporate name. 

Its independence in the exercise of its Constitutional powers is clearly guaranteed under the Constitution.
 
The Marsabit County Public Service Board through the Office of the Secretary invites;
 

a. Competent Artists and designers for the design of its Logo to be used on all its documents and other publications
 
b. Suggestions, proposals and designs of the County Public Service Board‘s logo and ‘Motto ‘from members of the public and interested persons.

The Logo design which should depict some features of the county’s heritage, geographical features, agricultural products, culture, tourism features, and any other unique features of the county should be submitted in full colour.

Eligibility
  1. Entrants must be Kenyan citizens,
  2. The competition is open to individuals and organized groups but not to any corporate entity;
  3. Entrants must be eighteen years and above;
  4. Youth, women and persons with disability are encouraged to participate.
Winners will be awarded as follows;
  • The winning Logo Kshs 50,000/=
  • 2nd best design Kshs 30,000/=
  • 3rd best design Kshs 20,000/= as a token of appreciation.
Professionals, students, youth institutions and the general public are encouraged to participate 

The design in 2CD-ROMs enclosed in plain sealed envelope marked “DESIGN OF MARSABIT PUBLIC SERVICE BOARD LOGO” should be posted OR hand delivered to Board’s offices located at Former GTZ offices NOT later than Monday 13th January 2015 at 10.00am.

Design of the Anti-FGM Board Logo
 
The Anti- Female Genital Mutilation Board was established as a body corporate under the Prohibition of Female Genital Mutilation Act, 2011.

The Board’s mandate includes prohibiting the practice of Female Genital Mutilation and safeguarding against violation of a person’s mental or physical integrity through the practice of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and for connected purposes.

The Board is calling for interested designers to develop a suitable corporate logo. 

The proposed logo should factor in the Board’s wider vision of a society free from Female Genital Mutilation and associated mental and physical violations and be of appealing colours that shall be adopted as the colours of the Board.

A hard copy of the proposed LOGO should be submitted to the Anti-FGM Board with soft copy on a CD.

The submitted logos will be appraised by the Board. 

The winners will be awarded as follows:-
  • First price: Ksh. 100,000/-
  • Second price: Ksh. 75,000/-
  • Third price: Ksh. 50,000/-
The winning design shall be the property of the Anti- Female Genital Mutilation Board.

SID Active Citizenship Grants

We are offering seed grants of up to KShs 1.5 million to county based partner organisations working to promote active citizenship and responsive governance in ten select counties. 

The grants will support citizen actions and activities between 15th September 2014 and 31st August 2015 in Bungoma, Garissa, Kajiado, Kisumu, Machakos, Nairobi, Nakuru, Nyeri, Turkana and Taita Taveta.

Criteria for application
 

Successful applications will have demonstrated, among others;
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Constitution of Kenya and how this could translate at a county and local level;
  • Passion for deepening spaces for meaningful interactions between citizens and their leaders;
  • Clear statement of impact sought in the county especially in terms of mobilisation of citizens to engage their county governments;
  • Existing programme, financial and administrative capacity to manage grants of this nature;
  • Office presence and outreach capacity in the stated county of interest.
How to apply and process for selection
 
1. Complete and submit the online Grant Application Form or download and complete the application form and email to kdp@sidint.org indicating “SID GRANT APPLICATION FORM” in the subject line by September 7th 2014.

2. Applications will be appraised the week of September 8th and we will communicate to the successful organisations. If you do not hear from us by September 14th, consider your application unsuccessful.

3. Successful organisations will be asked to submit documents to substantiate the application. This will include a scanned copy of a registration certificate, organisational constitution, last two annual audits, reference letter from past/current funding organization and current strategy or plan.

Nairobi Centre for International Arbitration (the Centre) was established by the Nairobi Centre for International Arbitration Act No. 26 of 2013. 

The Centre was set up to establish an independent international organization that will facilitate international commercial arbitration among other forms of Alternative Dispute Resolution mechanisms.
 
The Centre invites proposals from interested and qualified individuals or firms to design a corporate logo that embodies the spirit of mutual agreement in the context of dispute resolution. 

In addition, the design should capture the Centre’s international reach.
 
Terms of Reference
  1. Artists should submit the logo in an editable format and demonstrate the logo’s application on various stationery and promotional items i.e. letter-heads, business cards, fliers, banners and T-shirts/caps
  2. Points will be awarded on the following areas; utility, originality, colour selection, interpretation of themes and graphic reproduction.
  3. Shortlisted applicants will be contacted to make a presentation of their design before the Board of Directors.
  4. Once selected the Board of Directors of the Centre shall reserve the copyright to the logo and may use it on any surface without prior consultation.
Disclaimer: This logo competition is open to special interest groups i.e. women, youth and persons with disabilities.
 
Applicants must attach the following documents to their applications:
  1. Curriculum vitae;
  2. KRA PIN Certificate;
  3. KRA Tax Compliance Certificate; and
  4. Certificate of Incorporation (if a company).
The winning logo will attract a cash prize of Kshs. 100,000/= while the 1st and 2nd Runners up will be awarded Kshs. 60,000/= and 40,000/= respectively.

Leadership Essay Contest 2014

‘If you were a leader in Africa, what change would you bring about?’

East African residents between the age of 18-25 are invited to submit an essay for this year’s Leadership Essay Contest organised by Uongozi Institute.
 
The essay contest aims to provide a space for the youth of East Africa and the next generation of leaders in the region to contribute to important discussions on leadership.
 
Guidelines:
 
The contest is open to all East African citizens (Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda) between the age of 18 - 25 years old, to write about their perspective on Leadership. 

The essays should respond to the following question: “If you were a leader in Africa, which single change would you aim to bring about, and why? How would you do it?”

The essays should be no more than 2 A4 pages long. 


The format shall be of single spaced, Axial font size ii with page margins of 2.54cm for each margin, and sent as a Microsoft Word document.

Essays will be judged on the basis of originality, creativity, use of language and appropriateness to contest theme.

All essays must be written in English.

Prizes:
 
A grand prize of USD $2,000 will be awarded to the overall winner of the essay contest A total of five winners will be selected. 

The second prize will be $1,000, third prize $500, fourth prize $300 and fifth prize $200.
 
The top  winners will be brought to Dar es Salaam to receive their awards at a prize giving ceremony to be held during the Africa Leadership Forum Dinner Gala on 31 July, 2014, which will be attended by senior leaders from across Africa in the public, private and civil sectors. 

The overall winner will be asked to read the winning essay at the event. 

The top five essays will also be published in a newspaper supplement in The East African.

Applicants must also submit proof of identification (suitable for travel) and written statement of originality and ownership of intellectual property rights.

The final deadline for submission will be Monday, 6th June, 2014.

The top five winners will be notified via email on the week of 14 July, 2014.

Feedback will not be provided on individual essays.
Engineers Board of Kenya Logo Competition
 
The Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK) is a statutory body established under The Engineers Act, 2011. 

The role of the Board is the registration of engineers and engineering Consulting Firms, regulation of engineering professional services, setting of standards, and development of the general practice of engineering. 

EBK will contribute to the transformation of the engineering service delivery which will be expected to function effectively, innovatively and in a results- oriented and accountable manner.

The Board is seeking to develop a logo that will capture and portray the Board’s mandate and aspirations. 

The Board therefore invites interested designers to submit design proposals for the logo under the competition for a logo for the Engineers Board of Kenya.
 

Conditions of Participation
  1. The Contest is open only to both individual designers and corporate bodies.
  2. Staff of the Engineers Board of Kenya, Board Members and their immediate families are not eligible to enter the Contest.
Guidelines, rules and regulations for the competition:
  1. Entries MUST not in any way be similar to existing logos or other copyrighted images.
  2. The logo to be simple, clear and distinctly identifiable and relevant for effective application.
  3. The logo must contain the words” Engineers Board of Kenya.”
  4. The entries must be submitted as a scalable vector graphic in EPS format or equivalent, and also as a JPEG.
  5. The logo must be presented in high resolution and in 3D format
  6. Design to be accompanied by a written description of its meaning and features
  7. A participant may submit not more than three options.
  8. There is no fee charged to enter the competition
  9. The Board is not bound to award any entry, if in the sole discretion of the Board, no submission is deserving or suitable.
  10. EBK reserves the right to disqualify any Entrant or Entry at its sole discretion.
Intellectual Property Rights
  1. Design of either the winning entry or the first and second runners up submission may be subjected to necessary modification and adapted as EBK logo.
  2. EBK reserves the right to register the winning logo as its copyright.
  3. Any material graphic software or other items prepared by a winning entrant in the competition shall belong to and remain the property of EBK.
  4. The designers shall declare that the design is their original work.
  5. The winner will be required to sign a contract assigning all ownership of the logo to EBK

Mau Mau Memorial: Design Competition Brief

Organized by: Mau Mau Memorial Steering Committee

 
Composed of the Mau Mau War Veterans Association (MMWVA), the Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC), the Nairobi City County (Governor's Office), the National Museums of Kenya and the British High Commission.

Background: The Mau Mau War Veterans Association, assisted by KHRC and represented by the law firm of Leigh Day, reached an out of court settlement with the British Government, over torture committed during the colonial era in Kenya. 

It was announced in June 2013 and included: a financial settlement, a statement of sincere regret and the establishment of a memorial.
 

The Mau Mau Memorial will commemorate all those who were the victims of torture, suffered and supported the Mau Mau Movement.

Description: The memorial design will integrate three components, which are referred to as: a memorial place, a memorial narrative, and public interaction.

Memorial place
  • Site, Freedom Corner, Uhuru Park (precise location to be decided).
  • Floor area, 100 sq.m to 120 sq.m maximum.
  • Floor level, 50 cm minimum above ground.
  • Open-air and minimum enclosure.
  • A commemorative setting.
Memorial narrative: Designs are to integrate the textual and visual narratives.

Textual narrative
 
It is composed of three types of plaques or panels:
  • Opening plaques (total 3- English, Kiswahili and Braille)
  • Recognition plaque (1, English)
  • Settlement plaques (total 8—English 4 and Kiswahili 4).
Titles: History, Torture, Victims, Reconciliation (Display in linear sequence).
 
Plaque size: 80x90 cms. Text engraved on metal.
 
Plaques supplied by the competition organizers (Do not cost plaques in submission).

Visual narrative: Sculpture, mural and so on to symbolize reconciliation between the Mau Mau and the British Government

Public interaction
  • Memorial attracts public attention.
  • Memorial is used as an educational site.
  • Memorial is used as a relaxation site.
  • Memorial is memorable.
Eligibility
 
The competition is open to Kenyan designers and artists with 3-dimensional design and public art competences and experience. 

Individuals or a team of two-four persons may apply.

Submissions
 
Submissions must include:
  • A narrative of the proposed memorial design.
  • Production drawings (plans, elevations sections), and technical specifications.
  • 2-D and 3-D images. Soft copy, PDF(s) and 5 hard copies (A3 size).
  • Cost estimate based on current construction costs and cost of the visual narrative item.
  • Applicant(s) first and last names, gender, email and mobile number.
Judging
 
The Steering Committee will establish a panel to judge the submissions.
 
They will be reviewed for merit, originality, feasibility and cost.
 
The Steering Committee reserves the right to make changes to the winning design before execution.

Practical test
 
Designs must satisfy the following practical test:
  • Durability and minimum maintenance.
  • All surfaces to withstand public space stress and weathering.
  • Construction cost and cost of visual narrative item, not to exceed
  • Shs. 9.5 million (memorial and sculpture)
  • Compliance with NCC building code, as applicable.
Awards
  • Winner: Shs.250, 000 and the commission to oversee the execution of the memorial.
  • Runner-up: Shs.150, 000.
  • Third place: Shs:100, 000.
The awards will be announced mid-February 2014.

Competition for the Design of the County Flag, Coat of Arms and the County Public Seal
Pursuant to the County Government Act 2012 part 1 section 4 (2), Every County Government shall develop the Symbols of the county through a consultative process for approval by the County assembly by legislation.

In line with this, the county Government of West Pokot invites the members of the public, private firms and institutions in designing of the County Flag, Coat of arms and the county public seal.
 
The competition shall be in the following categories and shall be rewarded as follows.

Request for Design Competition for Kenya Tourism Board Exhibition Wear (Uniform)

1. Background
 
Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) is a state corporation mandated to market and promote Kenya as a preferred Tourism destination, locally, and internationally ,one of the ways through which KTB achieves its objectives is by participating in travel trade shows and exhibitions in the source markets.
 
These events provide a platform on which Kenya showcases her product offering and an opportunity for face-to-face interaction with both the travel trade and the end consumer/traveler.
 
2. Destination Exhibition Wear objective
 
To enhance Kenya’s tourism brand identity and the image of Kenya as a country brand and communicate Kenya’s distinct destination brand during trade shows and exhibitions by wearing distinct exhibition wear. 
To this extend the Board and private sector commissioned the creation of a fresh new Exhibition Wear in line with our desire to ensure that Kenya is positioned as a preferred tourism destination.

3. Potential Themes
 
The proposed theme of the Exhibition Wear should enjoy a reasonable degree of longevity and at the same time remain relevant in an ever changing apparel industry. Accessories will be an additional value-adding aspect.
 
4. Entry for the Design Competition
 
Entry is opened to firms, individuals and group of individuals not exceeding 8 (eight)
 
5. Cash Prize to be won
 
For the best design of Exhibition Wear, there are cash prizes that shall be awarded as detailed in the design brief.

When fully implemented, citizens will receive commonly used national and county government services such as issuance of ID cards, Drivers Licenses, Birth Certificates, registration of business names and much more, from one stop shop Huduma Centers.
 
These centers will initially be established in the 47 county headquarters, to thereafter cascade to sub-county level in subsequent phases of implementation. 
The Ministry of Devolution and Planning, in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government is spearheading the development of this initiative.
 
The Ministry of Devolution and Planning, invites interested Kenyans to develop a logo and tagline for the Huduma Centers. 
The logo should capture the essence, and vision of a Huduma Center and the modernization of public service delivery.
 
The following are the guidelines, rules and regulations for the competition:
 
1. The design should be in full color and in high resolution. It should be submitted in two (2) hard copies on A4 size paper and a soft copy in PDF, JPEG and TiFF in a windows readable CD.
 
2. The logo must be simple, fresh, clear and distinctly identifiable and should be easy to use on both offline and online platforms.
 
3. The logo should be accompanied by an inspirational tagline that captures the Huduma Center vision.
 
4. The design should be accompanied by a written description of its meaning and features.
 
5. The design should incorporate creative use of the flag colours as well as Kenya’s visual identity
 
6. Entrants to the competition should provide their names, postal addresses, email address and daytime telephone numbers.
 
7. The Ministry of Devolution and Planning reserves the right to subject the winning logo to necessary modification for its use; and will be used for co-branding by institutions from both the private and public sector.
 
8. The Ministry of Devolution and Planning reserves the right to register the winning logo as its copyright.
 
9. Any material prepared by an entrant in the competition shall belong to and remain the property of the Ministry of Devolution and Planning.
 
10. The judges’ decision will be final and will not be open to any correspondence or appeal whatsoever.
 
The Ministry will select the winning logos which will be awarded in order of merit as follows:
 
i. First position - Ksh. 50,000
 
ii. Second position - Ksh. 30,000
 
iii. Third position - Ksh. 20,000
 
The designs shall be submitted on a plain sealed envelope, marked “COMPETITION FOR “HUDUMA CENTER LOGO” and addressed to:

Participation and Competition for the Design of the County Government of Laikipia Symbols Namely:
 
1) County Flag
 
2) Coat of Arms
 
3) Public Seal
 
The County Government of Laikipia was established vide the County Government Act No.17 of 2012.
 
Pursuant to the above, the Office the Governor wishes to invite offers from the members of general public, students and/ or institutions for the designing of the County Flag, Coat of Arms and Public Seal through a competitive process.
 
Features:
 
The Flag, Coat of arms and Public seal should bear the following:-
  • Capture the main Physical, Socio-economic and Cultural activities in Laikipia County and bear the name: County Government of Laikipia
  • Be original in nature and must not infringe on any copy right and shall not be the same as or be a likeness or similarity to a national symbol.
  • Be done by using the common design programmes with a scale of 28x20 cm and a resolution of 300 pixels.
Prize
 
The competition shall be in the following categories with a token for the winner and the 1st runners up as indicated below:-
 
1) County Flag 
  • Winner Kshs. 50,000
  • 1st Runners up Kshs. 25,000
2) County Coat of Arms and Public Seal 
  • Winner Kshs. 50,000
  • 1st Runners up Kshs. 25,000
If a student (under age) wins, the token will be paid through the guardian.
 
Note: By submitting the logo, you shall by extension be transferring the copyright of the design to the County Government of Laikipia.
 
The proposed logo designs with a CD should be submitted to the undersigned by 4th July 2013, through the following address;
