Project Officer: Project Management and communications

Overview

BirdLife International is a global partnership of non-governmental conservation organisations (Partners) active in more than 100 countries, who strive to conserve birds, their habitats and global biodiversity, working with people towards sustainability in the use of natural resources.

The BirdLife Partnership in Africa comprises 23 independent national grass roots conservation NGOs, with a combined total of more than 300 staff and 30,000 members.

About the job

The BirdLife International Africa Partnership requires a dynamic, self-starting individual to undertake project management of a number of projects focusing on livelihoods, policy making and profiling of a biodiversity hotspot in Africa.

The person is also expected to undertake a key role in communications work of the BirdLife Africa regional office. The position will be based within the BirdLife Africa Partnership Secretariat offices in Nairobi, Kenya and is for a fixed period of one year with a possibility of renewal depending on funding.

The successful candidate will be confident, able to demonstrate initiative and creativity have the ability to work with minimum supervision and be self motivated.

The successful candidate is also expected to have experience of project management especially within an NGO setting, data collation, synthesis and management, have excellent financial and technical report writing skills and contracting experience.

The individual is also expected to have excellent communication skills (both oral and written), excellent IT skills and have knowledge of biodiversity conservation, sustainable development and advocacy in Africa and possess very strong interpersonal skills.

Knowledge of the BirdLife Africa Partnership and bilingualism in English and French will be added advantages. Fundraising skills, web design and management of a website are desirable skills for the position.

Minimum qualifications for this post
  • First degree in management, communications or in another relevant field but with professional training in management and/or communications.
  • Three years working experience in project management, communications and or research.
  • Salary is in the range of US$8,400 - US$9,600 per annum plus benefits.
