Function: Logistics, Management

Employer: One Acre Fund

Job Location: Western Kenya

Commitment: Long Term Career Position

Organization Description

One Acre Fund is an agricultural NGO in Kenya, Rwanda, and Burundi that is innovating a new way of helping farm families to achieve their full potential. One Acre invests in farmers to generate a permanent gain in farm income.

We provide farmers with a "market bundle" that includes education, finance, seed and fertilizer, and market access. Our program is proven impactful – every year, we weigh thousands of harvests and measure more than 100% average gain in farm income per acre.

We are growing quickly. In five years, we have grown to serve 70,000 farm families with more than 500 full-time field staff.

Job Description

One Acre Fund is a rapidly growing organization; increasing the number of sub-locations, districts, and members we serve in each year. We are seeking a Senior Logistics Associate to take on a leadership role in the logistics department in our Headquarters and Regional Offices.

Primary Duties of the Senior Logistics Associate

Lead in All Aspects of our Logistics Operations: the Senior Logistics Associate will be involved in all aspects of our logistics operations including procurement of major inputs, distribution of inputs to field staff and directly to members, warehousing, re-packaging, procurement of new products, and more.

Support Logistics Manager in Procurement of Major Inputs: These inputs primarily include maize seed and fertilizer and this work will involve some more complex tasks like sourcing specialized blended fertilizer mixes for OAF members.

Contribute to Managing Inventory and Input Delivery: Including securing warehouse space and managing shipping contracts for delivery of all major inputs to the field.

Lead in Procurement and Logistics Support for Field Trials and New Products: Supporting field trials such as sourcing, re-packaging, and delivering new tree seed varieties, managing the supply of chlorine for communal chlorine dispensers supported by OAF, and developing a delivery system for live banana tissue culture at scale for a new OAF banana product.

Assist in Management of Staff: Manage a staff of between 2 and 5 members. Provide constructive feedback and mentorship to staff.

Assist with Budgeting – Senior staff are responsible for maintaining a budget for their team and tracking costs in order to minimize unnecessary costs.

Collaborate with Other Teams – There are many teams within the headquarters, corporate, and field staff. Senior staff are responsible for using clear communication among departments and to our hard working staff in the field.

Proactively Solve Problems – One Acre Fund needs decisive leadership on their team. Individuals who want to make each task better, not those who do not want to improve the situation around themselves or for their team. Managers must anticipate issues and solve them early.

If you have these skills and experiences in these areas, please highlight them on your cover letter and resume.
