Mercy Corps Kenya is currently responding to the drought by increasing access to affordable water in Wajir County, Northeast Kenya.

The Emergency Drought Response in Northeastern, Kenya will provide immediate emergency, rebuild the livelihoods of target communities and build the capacity of local organizations involved in the implementation of the program.

The proposed program integrates the principles of response to immediate needs, restoration of livelihoods, and capacity building for long-term recovery.

Position: Monitoring and Evaluation Assistant II

Program / Department Summary:


In our continued response to emergency and disaster, Mercy Corps seeks a motivated M&E Assistant for our Wajir Drought Response and Early Recovery Program in North Eastern Kenya.

The M&E unit provides a technical support service to Mercy Corps’ programs in Wajir.

The aim of the M&E unit is to assist programs in specific activities that help quantify, analyze, and document the impacts and outputs of Mercy Corps’ programs including data collection, data management, data analysis, and mapping.

The M&E Unit will:
  • conduct surveys and assist in monitoring activities that help evaluate program success
  • manage program data, including information that is collected by programs and the M&E Unit, this will include database support and design
  • provide regular reports and summary information to Program Managers and Senior Management
  • participate in other monitoring and evaluation activities including collaboration in field and program based research.
The M&E unit has staff that support monitoring and database management staff.

General Position Summary:

The M&E Assistant (ii) will be involved in the daily input and filing of program information and monitoring data. The M&E Assistant will also assist in data analysis and reporting.

In addition, the M&E Assistant will help in surveying, data analysis, and reporting when requested. The monitoring unit works with all the program teams.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Enter data collected from monitoring activities accurately and according to schedule.
  • Work daily on the computer primarily in Microsoft Excel.
  • File Means of Verification documents after entry into databases.
  • Work with Monitoring Coordinator to track that program-based monitoring activities are being performed according to schedule.
  • Work in collaboration with the Monitoring Coordinator to provide timely reports and data summaries.
  • Conduct himself/herself both professionally and personally in such a manner as to bring credit to Mercy Corps and to not jeopardize its humanitarian mission.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Accountability

Reports Directly To:
M&E Specialist

Works Directly With: the Operation department team and Program Team

Knowledge and Experience:
  • One year experience working on the computer in Microsoft Office applications including Excel is required.
  • Skills in other programs, such as Access or statistical packages is also desirable.
  • Excellent skills using the computer keyboard (numbers and letters).
  • Attention to detail and patience to double check data entry is essential.
  • Good basic math skills are essential and general knowledge of statistical principles is preferred.
  • Comfort and ability to talk to and interview people in a respectful manner while professionally representing Mercy Corps is essential.
  • Strong English, Kiswahili and Somali language skills.
