About KCDF: KCDF is a Kenyan Foundation that supports sustainable development of communities by working in a number of key sectors including Livelihoods Development (urban and rural communities); Economic Empowerment & Entrepreneurship; Environmental Management, Food Security & Climate Change Adaptation; Education, Youth& Children; and Policy and Advocacy, as well as the promotion of social justice across all our community engagements. 

We also perceive capacity building and the strengthening of local institutions as key and central part in achieving the sustainability agenda.

The Kibera Fund: The Kibera Fund was established through a partnership with Comic Relief - a UK based public fundraising organization with the objective of supporting local initiatives that seek to alleviate poverty and improve the economic, social and health situations of vulnerable people living in Kibera and other informal settlements in Nairobi.
 
KCDF seeks to partner with organizations working in informal settlements (slums) to implement
interventions that:
  • improve the well-being of families, particularly child-headed and single parent households;
  • improve the status and safety of women and the girl child;
  • promote preventative health care;
  • promote employment, entrepreneurship and Youth development;
  • promote access to water and sanitation;
  • promote arts and culture initiatives for people living in the slums;
  • promote civic education, especially with regard to the new constitution and realization of Vision 2030;
  • as well as ethnic cohesion and peaceful coexistence among people living in informal settlements
Project Duration: The project implementation period shall be 12 to 24 months.
 
Grant Size: The average size of grants will be between KES 1 Million and KES 3.5 Million.
 
We invite interested organisations to dissemination forums that will be held in the following locations and dates:
  • Kibera - Mchanganyiko Hall along Karanja road on Monday 24th March 2014, 10.00 am – 12.00 pm
  • Kawangware - Kabiro Social Hall on Monday 24th March 2014, 2.00 pm – 4.00 pm
  • Mathare – Mathare Youth Polytechnic Hall on Tuesday 25th March 2014, 9.00am – 12.00pm
  • Mukuru/ Viwandani - Lunga Lunga Health Centre Hall ( Mareba) on Tuesday 25th March 2014, 2.00-4.00pm

The grant proposal should be submitted on or before the deadline of 4th April 2014.

Applications delivered outside the deadline will automatically be disqualified.
