Vacancy: Regional Program Director, Eastern Africa

The Position: Reporting to the Director of Programs, the Regional Program Director is responsible for ensuring field-based, donor-funded contracts and agreements (“programs”) meet or exceed results targets, and are implemented on-time, within budget and meet other key donor and stakeholder requirements. 

This position will oversee a portfolio of projects mainly focusing on the East Africa region, but might also include other geographies, depending on requirements. 

This position will directly manage and mentor Chiefs of Party (COPs) and field project managers for our field-based operations and promote measurable economic impact, financial sustainability, risk mitigation and long-term partner independence desired outcomes of our programs. 

This position will also foster and maintain strategic relationships with local, regional and international partners (donors, government, non-governmental and private sector organizations).

Required
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as Country Director and/or Chief of Party, managing donor-funded development projects at the country level.
  • Master’s Degree in Agriculture, Business, International Development or related field.
  • Experience living and working in East Africa.
  • Experience managing projects funded by the US government, including knowledge of US government regulations.
  • Experience working with or for private sector company(s) engaged in agriculture or agribusiness.
  • Demonstrated experience and success in leading, supervising, coaching and developing others.
  • Demonstrated experience and success in fostering and leveraging strategic partnerships.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
Preferred
  • Regional level management experience.
  • Field-based experience overseeing donor-funded agriculture or economic growth project(s).
  • Experience managing US Food Aid programming (USAID and/or USDA).
  • Skills in languages other than English that are relevant to the region and program portfolio.
  • Sub-grants and sub-contract management experience.
