The African Wildlife Foundation (AWF) is the leading international conservation organization focused solely on the African continent. AWF’s mission is, together with the people of Africa, to ensure that the wildlife and wild lands of Africa will endure forever.

AWF currently seeks to hire a Director of Human Resources to be based in its Headquarter Offices in Nairobi, Kenya.

The Director of Human Resources (DHR) will report to the Vice President Program Operations and oversee the Foundation’s global Human Resources functions.

The DHR will be expected to implement and maintain an operating framework for the organization that enables the organization to be results driven, accurate and agile, and results in a performance culture where company objectives are achieved and individuals excel in
their respective capabilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Create a HR strategy to support overall mission and strategic framework of the organization.
  • Lead, manage and supervise HR operations (executed by HR team) including recruitment, contracting, compensation, payroll, benefits administration, performance management, and training.
  • Provide organizational leadership to assess and steer AWF workplace culture.
  • Working with AWF’s management team, assess and improve staff performance assessment system, career development opportunities and succession planning practices.
  • Select and negotiate AWF’s staff benefit and welfare programs to ensure competitive costs to AWF and improve employee satisfaction and retention.
The successful candidate;
  • Must be fully fluent in both French and English.
  • Will have a University degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Will have 10+ years work related experience, preferably in donor-funded organization, with a track record of increasingly responsible positions. 5+ years of experience leading a professional team.
  • Will have excellent knowledge of industry best practices and the ability to translate this knowledge into policies and procedures within AWF.
  • Will have excellent knowledge of labor laws and regulations in AWF’s countries of operation.
  • Will have a professional demeanor with an unwavering commitment to honesty and integrity.
  • Will have a strong team commitment and drive for personal and organizational achievement.
