Manager, Internal Audit
HRD/ MIA

Reporting to the Chief Executive administratively and to the Audit, Risk Management and Corporate Governance Committee of the Board, the Manager, Internal Audit will be responsible for:
  • Overall review of Authority’s operational procedures, systems, practices and records to ensure conformity with laws, regulations and policies and consistency with the Authority’s established objectives and goals;
  • Assessing the adequacy of systems and procedures and evaluating internal controls and processes, appraising the relevance, reliability and integrity of management, financial and operating systems;
  • Reviewing and developing auditing techniques and procedures for financial, procurement, operational systems, regulatory and management audit;
  • Developing an internal audit plan and providing assurances and appraising the economy and efficiency with which resources are employed;
  • Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of the Authority’s risk management processes and strategies and periodically assessing the risk of the Authority;
  • Presenting audit reports to the Audit, Risk Management and Corporate Governance Committee of the Board as Secretary to the Audit, Risk Management and Corporate Governance Committee;
  • Giving guidance and leadership in strategic matters relating to internal audit;
  • Coordinating with the external auditor the external audit of the Authority
The ideal candidate must possess:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce, Finance or related field;
  • Masters in Business Administration, or related field;
  • Professional qualification of CPA or ACCA and CIA or equivalent;
  • Be a registered member of ICPAK, or any other relevant professional body;
  • At least 8 years of relevant work experience, four of which must be at senior level in a reputable organization;
  • Hands on experience in CAATS or Audit Command Language;
  • Initiative and self-drive for high quality performance, and "team player" attitude;
  • Demonstrated proven leadership, excellent communication and interpersonal skills;

Senior Financial Analyst
HRD/SFA

Reporting to the Assistant Manager, Financial Analysis the selected candidate will be responsible for;
  • Preparing schedules, reviewing and interpreting financial information and periodic financial statements of listed companies and market intermediaries aimed at securing compliance with capital markets rules and regulations;
  • Reviewing applicable accounting standards and guidelines to assess the adequacy of information disclosed by issuers, licensees and listed companies;
  • Participating in special projects related to accounting and reporting issues as requested;
  • Coordinating the analysis of periodical financial statements of market intermediaries and listed companies to ensure continued compliance with the capital markets rules and regulations and in line with the financial reporting requirements as outlined by the IFRS;
  • Reviewing of financial analysis reports submitted by new license applicants and issuers to determine compliance with regulatory provisions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies & Experience:
  • A degree in Mathematics, Economics, Accounting, Finance, Actuarial Science or in a related field;
  • Professional qualifications such as CFA, CPA or equivalent;
  • At least three (3) years relevant work experience gained from money and capital markets or relevant financial organizations with a strong focus on analysis, compliance and market regulation.
Legal Officer - Licensing and Approvals

Reporting to the Head, Licensing and Approvals, the selected candidate will be responsible for:
  • Reviewing applications for licensing of market intermediaries/institutions;
  • Reviewing applications for offers to the public and new or additional listing at the securities exchange;
  • Reviewing application for approval of products to be offered to be offered to the public;
  • Reviewing of applications for bonus merger and takeovers etc in line with capital markets regulatory requirements;
  • Reviewing proposed advertisements, notices by issuers/intermediaries
Required Qualifications, Competencies & Experience:
  • Bachelors of Law (LLB) degree;
  • An advocate of the High Court of Kenya;
  • Up to 2 years relevant work experience in commercial law;
  • Excellent report writing skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to multitask.
Additional preferred requirements:
  • Professional Qualifications such as CPA, CFA, ACCA, or CPS;
  • Capital Markets industry experience.
Legal Officer – Enforcement
Ref: HRD/LOE

Reporting to the Assistant Manager, Enforcement, the selected candidate will be responsible for:
  • Reviewing investigations reports on violations of capital market law and recommend appropriate enforcement action;
  • Providing legal interpretations on applicable law;
  • Developing the Enforcement Manual and continuously updating the Enforcement Manual for new violations and the necessary capital markets evidence required;
  • Maintaining a database of and providing reports and updates on the enforcement actions undertaken by the Authority;
  • Liaising with external counsel representing the Authority in all judicial proceedings connected to enforcement of capital markets law;
  • Drafting affidavits for enforcement cases.
Required Qualifications, Competencies & Experience:
  • Bachelor’s of Law (LLB) Degree and be an advocate of the High Court of Kenya;
  • Up to 2 years relevant work experience in Commercial law and litigation;
  • Excellent report writing skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to multitask.
Additional preferred requirements:
  • Professional qualifications such as CPA, CFA, ACCA, CPS, CISA, CFE and Chartered Institute Arbitrators.
  • Capital market industry experience.
Investor Education Officer - Investors
Ref: HRD/IEO/1

Reporting to the Assistant Manager, Investor Education and Public Awareness, the Investor Education Officer- will be responsible for:
  • Identifying investors public information needs and information gaps;
  • Designing and developing strategies for investor education including training materials such as brochures, posters, magazines and other publications;
  • Implementing effective investor education or financial literacy programs through training workshops, seminars and presentations to the investing public;
  • Assisting in conducting needs assessment and baseline surveys with the view to assessing the impact of investor education programs;
  • Assisting in effective and prompt handling of enquiries and other general requests for information from investors and the general public;
  • Engaging with partners to implement joint investor education campaigns.
Required Qualifications, Competencies & Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, communications, economics, business or a related field;
  • Up to 2 years experience in capital markets or financial services development;
  • A good understanding of Kenyan capital markets and products and services;
  • Experience with information dissemination, public education and/or conducting training in financial aspects;

Stakeholder Education Officer-Issuers and Intermediaries

The Stakeholder Education Officer- will be responsible for:
  • Identifying information needs for market intermediaries, issuers and potential issuers;
  • Designing and developing strategies for information dissemination and capacity building including training materials, delivery channels and tools;
  • Implementing education, awareness and capacity building programs to enhance understanding of capital markets products and services amongst intermediaries and issuers and potential issuers/intermediaries;
  • Assisting in conducting needs assessment and baseline surveys with the view to assessing the impact of stakeholder education programs;
  • Assisting in effective and prompt handling of enquiries and other general requests for information from intermediaries, issuers and potential issuers/intermediaries.

IT Networks and Security Administrator

Reporting to the Assistant Manager ICT, the IT Networks and Security Administrator will be responsible for;
  • Monitoring and ensuring systems availability at all times;
  • Coordinating and strictly enforcing the implementation of data backup procedures to protect against loss of valuable data and information caused by hardware problems, virus attacks or physical hazards;
  • Research, planning, installing, configuring, troubleshooting, maintaining and upgrading hardware and software interfaces with the operating system;
  • Monitoring, diagnosing and troubleshooting the computer network backbone which includes network switching systems and servers, organizational data and information, telephone communication systems and intelligent terminal equipment;
  • Providing monitoring and primary response and intervention for information technology related security incidents and violations;
  • Administration and configuration of IT Networks and Security on different platforms;
  • Administration of Disaster Recovery Processes.
Required Qualifications, Competencies & Experience:
  • University degree in Computer Science or IT related disciplines from a reputable institution;
  • At least 2 years experience in networks, managing a network of more than 200 users;
  • Certification in CCNA, MCSE and CISA.

Systems Technician

Reporting to the Assistant Manager ICT, the Systems Technician will be responsible for;
  • Installing , assembling and configuring computers, monitoring, network infrastructure and peripherals such as printers, scanners and related hardware;
  • Manning the organizations IT help desk and responding to user requests for assistance;
  • Acting as a technical resource in assisting users to resolve problems with equipment and data;
  • Troubleshooting and resolving hardware, software, and connectivity problems, including user access and component configuration;
  • Hardware warranty management and vendor liaison;
  • Computer Equipment Inventory documentation and maintenance;
  • Recording and maintaining hardware and software inventories, site and/or server licensing, and user access and security.
Required Qualifications, Competencies & Experience:
  • Higher Diploma in IT or higher from a reputable institution;
  • At least 2 years experience in ICT End User Support;
  • Certification in A+, N+, MCSE, ICDL

Corporate Communication Officer
HRD/CCO

Reporting to the Head of Corporate Communications, the selected candidate will be responsible for:
  • Drafting a wide range of written communication materials e.g press releases, speeches,bmedia watch;
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with external stakeholders;
  • Acting as the focal point in the Corporate Communications department for liaising with third party suppliers (photographers, video service providers etc);
  • Representing, as required, the Corporate Communications Department in internal event planning meetings;

The Capital Markets Authority is seeking to appoint talented, creative and innovative team players to work as Management Trainees in various directorates.

We are looking for individuals who are interested in capital market sector and who are up to date on key happenings in the Kenyan Capital Markets. The management trainee appointment is for a fixed term period of two years.

market participants.

Duties and responsibilities
  • Assist in conducting regular and ad-hoc supervision, inspection and investigation of market participants to secure compliance with regulatory requirements;
  • Assist in conducting analysis of financial statements submitted in support of applications by listed companies;
  • Maintaining and update databases relating to financial data;
  • Maintaining an accurate and comprehensive surveillance intelligence database covering all market participants involved in securities transactions.
The ideal candidate must possess:
  • A Bachelors degree in law, business or related field;
  • Professional qualifications such as CPA, ACCA, CFE, CISA is added advantage.
b) Management Trainee – Investigations and Enforcement

Duties and responsibilities
  • Assist in reviewing investigations reports;

The role of the directorate is planning, designing, conducting and implementing research results, development of the Authority’s strategy and capital markets policy, review and refinement of the legal framework in which the capital markets operates in.

  • Assist in conducting collaborative research and surveys on capital market performance, characteristics and trends, business practices and financial risks;

  • Assist in implementing effective methodologies and strategies for utilization of data and information to expand the capital markets products and services;
  • Assist in establishing appropriate policies, procedures, methodologies and quality standards for introducing new products and services into the capital markets;
