The CRADLE is a non-governmental, non-partisan and not- for- profit organization committed to the promotion, protection and enhancement of the rights of the child through legal aid; legislative and policy advocacy; awareness creation; and research, monitoring and documentation.

The CRADLE is seeking for 3 qualified and experienced Advocates for the following positions:

Legal Assistant - Eldoret, Malindi and Mombasa

Reporting to: Programme Manager, Legal Aid Program

Responsibilities
  • Interviewing clients and drafting pleadings.
  • Undertake litigation on child rights in courts situated in Eldoret, Mombasa and Malindi and their environs
  • Conducting pretrial briefings for children.
  • Undertake fact –finding missions.
  • Managing the Child Help Desk at the Eldoret Law Courts, Tononoka Children’s Court and Malindi Child Protection Unit.
  • Assist in formulation of annual and operational project activity plans and budgets.
  • Assist in overall management, control and coordination of The CRADLE’s Pro Bono Lawyers scheme in the three regions.
  • Undertake research and the development of IEC materials.
  • Preparation of case histories for The CRADLE clients.
  • Assist Programme Manager in mobilization of funds for the project.
Qualifications
  • Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, with a degree in law from a recognized University with at least 2 years experience.
  • Must possess a current practicing certificate.
  • Demonstrated understanding of child rights issues especially in Kenya.
  • Must be computer literate.
  • Should have management and organizational skills.
  • Good communication, presentation, research and analysis skills.
  • Ability to handle pressure and work with minimum or no supervision.
  • Should be proactive, self motivated and able to work in a team.
  • Have excellent interpersonal skills.
