icipe is an intergovernmental organisation funded by government aid agencies, UN organisations and private foundations to carry out research and training in environmentally sound and sustainable management of arthropods for improved health and agricultural productivity in the tropics.

icipe has approximately 350 staff to support its research and capacity building programmes, located at various sites in Kenya and Ethiopia.

icipe requires the services of a Research Technician to work in the McKnight Foundation-funded Napier Grass Stunt Disease Project. This position is based at icipe Thomas Odhiambo campus (ITOC) in Mbita, South Nyanza.

The successful applicant will report to the Programme Coordinator.

Competitive compensation packages will be offered to the right candidates. Based in Nairobi, Kenya the appointments will initially be for two years, renewable.

Responsibilities
·       Insect mass rearing for the project.
·       Setting up, maintenance and monitoring of screen house experiments.
·       Provide screen house support for students and visiting scientists.
·       Data collection and coding in both electronic and hard copy formats.
·       Report writing and updating the supervisor regularly.
·       Perform other duties as required.
Requirements
·       Minimum Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences from a recognised university.
·       Minimum 1 years’ experience in carrying out screen house procedures particularly insect mass rearing, experimental design and biological data analysis.
·       Experience with techniques in insect collection, taxonomy and dissection will be an added advantage.
·       Must be computer literate and have good report writing skills.
·       Must possess good organisational skills.
·       Good communication and interpersonal skills.
·       Ability to work in a multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary environment.
