Oxfam’s Kenya Programme is a complex programme that incorporates both rapid and slow onset emergencies as well as longer term development and policy work.

Oxfam Kenya applies a one programme approach which means it has multiple activities that support a holistic approach to humanitarian, development and advocacy for long lasting change in poverty reduction.

Public Health is one of an integral component of Oxfam’s multi sectoral Arid and Semi Arid Land (ASAL) programme responding to this humanitarian and development needs of pastoralist’s communities in Northern Turkana.

The launch of a project under the European Commission funded global water facility initiative aims to provide safe water to 45,000 people and ensure 66,000 people adopt key hygiene behaviours which reduce the risk of hygiene related diseases.

Oxfam GB is looking for a competent person to fill in the position of Public Health Promoter Team Leader to support in the implementation of the project.

The role

You will be required to work closely with the Hygiene promoter and community Mobiliser to manage the hygiene promotion and the software component in the WASH project.

You will provide strategic leadership at all levels of PHP programme cycle including assessment, program design and implementation, and M&E systems.

You will also play a key role in ensuring programme implementation to reflect beneficiary feedback and foster an integrative approach to programme implementation within Oxfam and other actors.

The role requires you to develop and implement structured capacity building for staff and partners ensuring all Public Health Project staffs are aware and abide with key internal and external protocols and principles.

What we are looking for

To be successful in this role, you must have a relevant professional qualification in Public Health Promotion with in-depth experience in appropriate community health and environmental programmes.

Experience and understanding of community mobilisation in relation to water and sanitation in complex humanitarian situation and development context is essential.

You will need demonstrated experience of programme integration and commitment to humanitarian principles and action to crosscutting issues like gender, diversity, HIV and AIDS into public health promotion programme.

The role requires you to have knowledge and experience in applying the Community Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) approach to community sanitation and experience in school WASH programming.

Assessment, analytical, planning, negotiation and report writing skills is critical to the role. Willingness to travel at short notice and ability to work under pressure in response to the changing needs is vital to the role.

Good written and spoken English is essential while knowledge of Turkana and Swahili is desirable.
