Web Application Developer

The Role:

The Web Application Developer will report to the General Manager - Digital Division.

He/She will be charged with the responsibility of planning, implementing and deploying
web applications using the internal content management system.

Key result areas will include:
  • Working with the development team on planning, implementation and deployment of web applications using the internal content management system and third party API’s;
  • Configuring, maintaining and administering web applications, web and application servers databases and the physical servers hosting the applications;
  • Assisting the online technical manager in day to day job’s; and
  • Working with diverse teams so as to develop the Digital business.
Skills, knowledge and experience requirement:
  • Basic University Degree;
  • Proficiency in web development technologies and programming languages- Java, JSP, .NET and XML and XSLT;
  • Proficiency in database design and development- MSSQL 2005, MySQL and JDBC Drivers;
  • Proficiency in application and web server technologies including - Apache http server and Apache tomcat;
  • Ability to access the best technology to use in a project;
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills; and
  • Experience in working with a CMS will be an added advantage.

Press Technicians

We wish to recruit qualified and experienced Press Technicians who will add value to the operations of the Group.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operation of a web-offset newspaper printing press with its ancillary equipment.
  • Timely production of high quality company and third-party publications.
  • Routine preventive maintenance of the printing press and ancillary equipment.
  • Preparation of production reports.
  • Testing of production materials.
Knowledge, skills and attributes required
  • Minimum ‘O’ Level Education certificate with a minimum grade C in Math, English, Chemistry and Physics.
  • Diploma in Machine Printing.
  • At least two years working experience in a print production environment.
  • Computer Literacy.
  • Be a team player.
  • Self-Motivated and focused on target achievement.
  • Creativity and keenness on details.
  • Ability to work long hours with minimum supervision.
