Innovations for Poverty Action is a nonprofit Organization in Kenya that innovates and evaluates approaches to solving development problems, and disseminates information about what works and what does not to policy makers, practitioners, social entrepreneurs and donors around the world.

The Job

We are looking for a Book Keeper to fill a position that has arisen in our – Nairobi Office.

Description of work:

Key responsibilities include:
  • Keep records of all financial transactions within the organization in an orderly manner.
  • Create and follow a filing system that is simple and easy to retrieve files. Ensuring the records are sent to Head Office on monthly basis while retaining copies for Nairobi office.
  • Entering daily transactions to the existing accounting software in this case Quick Books.
  • Prepare check request forms for payments attaching all required supporting documents.
  • Disburse cash payments as per the financial policy of IPAK.
  • Keeping track of staff expense accounts including reconciling the same and sending their statements whenever they request.
  • Support the DTW project staff in processing their payments.
  • Ensuring the advance accounts are zeroed out.
  • Prepare & compute withholding taxes and other statutory deductions in accordance to the Law.
  • From time to time prepare periodical financial reports as requested by the head office.
  • Supporting the DTW project to keep all the financial records.
  • Ensuring completeness, accuracy and timeliness in the processing financial information.
The Candidate Profile:
  • At least CPA part I or its equivalent.
  • At least 2 years accounting work experience.
  • Excellent command of accounting principles.
  • Process thinker with excellent analytical skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in English and Kiswahili.
  • Well-developed skills in MS-Excel, MS-Word, MS-Outlook required, accounting package will be an added advantage.
  • Ability to work under pressure and under minimum supervision.
  • Able to travel to the field.
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines.
  • Integrity, flexibility, confidentiality and self disciplined are key.
