Position: Regional Content Manager – East: Spice VAS Africa

Location: Nairobi, Kenya

Reports to: VP Content Alliances, Spice VAS Africa

Description:

The product portfolio of Spice includes various mobile VAS platforms like Caller Ring Back Tones, Music on Demand, Voice Chat, as well as mobile telecom infrastructure solutions like USSD gateway, Online Charging, Location Based Services, etc. 

Job Role & Responsibilities:


The Regional Content Manager will be responsible for the management of the content acquisition and monetization activities, within the business which involves



Acquisition: negotiation of contracts, and collecting all content from various Content Partners

Deployment: Monitoring delivery of all the content acquired to all vectors where this content can be monetized.

Content Monetization: Perform all activities to achieve & exceed the predefined Content monetization targets.

IPR Management: Perform all activities necessary with respect to protecting our IPR on exclusive content licenses and ensure that the company always adheres to its obligations towards our partners’ IPR. Maintain strong documentation to ensure all the deliverables in the Content Licenses are executed.

Relationship Management with all the content partners and relevant people at the Opcos.

The RCM shall be based at Nairobi, Kenya and would manage all Content activities in the Anglophone Region,  currently comprising of Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia. 



Relationship management is a key aspect to the role that requires resolution of internal and industry wide challenges requiring liaison between Spice, content owners, content partners and content aggregators. 



The job may require extensive traveling within the region.

The job will entail four broad roles:

1.    Content Acquisition & Management:

  • Source and negotiate content, including the negotiation of price, commercial terms, duration, territory, exclusivities etc.
  • Develop and maintain a strong relationship with content owners and aggregators.
  • Ensure that the company is at all times protected from any legal issues that may arise with regards to the digital rights associated with the content.
  • Stay abreast with content, especially music trends and tastes in the markets to ensure that Spice has access to ‘best’ content.
  • Protect Spice content from illegal usage by third parties

2.   Content Ingestion:

  • Manage the end to end content ingestion requirement for the business which includes data transfer, metadata QA and manual ingestion pushes into the technology platforms.
  • Manage an accurate record and library of all content owned and handled.
  • Manage the filing of contracts, price mappings and monitoring of rate cards and expiration dates.
  • Liaise with rights holders to obtain the necessary data to ingest content.
  • Ensure that content has been correctly ingested and available to customers via Spice’s platforms

3.   Content Management and Support

  • Manage Content Planning via promotions and exclusivity on a roadmap
  • Provide support to clients and Operators on all content matters on an ad hoc basis.
  • Monitor overall content marketing by the company’s clients and ensure rollouts are executed according to plan.
  • Liaising with rights holders to obtain approval for marketing campaigns and ensure that clients adhere to any special requirements.
  • Produce a monthly report and analysis of content acquisition and sales according to usage and genre’ in order establish trends and to adjust the strategy accordingly.
  • Send a monthly charts coverage to clients to indicate popularity of content for promotional purposes.
  • Manage daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly royalty reports to rights holders.
  • Manage quarterly reporting to publishing societies.
  • Ensure that all record labels are paid timeously with finance resources.

4.  Relationship Management

  • Maintain relationship with Clients, content owners and content partners.

Candidate Profile:

  • Tertiary degree or diploma.
  • At least 7 years experience within the content industry, of which 2 with a record label or Radio Station. Exposure to Mobile content environment is desirable.
  • Candidate must be able to fulfill the position with minimum managerial guidance.
  • Previous experience working with downloadable content and or media.
  • Industry contacts.
  • End-to-end experience in the content value chain with the ability to manage projects from start to finish.
  • Experience in the development and management of online and mobile portal environments.
  • Experience in managing and producing reports.
  • Experience working with content management systems.
  • Experience working with metadata.
