Finance Assistant
 
Save the Children Sweden started working in Eastern and Central Africa in 1965. Today, we have offices in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia; Nairobi, Kenya; and Khartoum, Sudan.
 
Through long-term child-rights based development programs, we focus on building the capacity of local
people, community-based structures and organizations by working with local partners. In Eastern and Central Africa, we work with more than forty different non-governmental organizations and government bodies.
 
All of the work in the region focuses on children’s rights, and tackles issues that affect marginalized children. 

The core of the work focuses on children affected by conflict, education, discrimination, abuse, exploitation, and HIV/AIDS. Our focus also includes child participation and good governance in the best interest of the child.
 
The Nairobi Regional Office is seeking a Finance Assistant
 
The Finance Assistant will provide support to the finance team in completing the relevant financial activities within the Regional Office. 

The Finance Assistant will report to the Regional Finance Manager.
 
This is a short term contract, up to end September 2012. 

Description of tasks
  • Prepare GRN’s for procured items
  • Compile support documents to be used in payments, including the checking and verification
  • Review all payment requests in order to certify correctness and ensures all appropriate supporting documents have been provided
  • Verification of travel settlements and supporting documents provided
  • Administration of petty cash as per set guidelines
  • Filing and maintaining accounting documents
  • Prepare payment vouchers and checks, assigning expenditure to proper account and project codes in accordance with the set guidelines
  • Facilitate banking duties and handling all queries with the bank
  • Assist in the preparation and coordination of external audits
  • Assist with implementation and maintaining internal financial controls and procedures
  • Liaises with suppliers and deals with their queries
  • Assist in preparation of financial reports and special reports as may be necessary
  • Monitor utility bills to ensure they are up to date and paid on time
  • Facilitate the payment of all statutory payments e.g. P.A.Y.E, NSSF, NHIF, HELP and also payment of Pension and Sacco contribution for Staff
  • Remitting of P.A.Y.E quarterly returns.
Required qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in accountancy/finance OR CPA (K)
  • Highly developed relationship building and interpersonal skills
  • Highly developed verbal and communication skills
  • Strong analytical and financial modeling skills
  • Ability to liaise with a diverse range of people, stakeholders and customers
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • High levels of attention to detail and quality
  • Computer literacy (including advanced excel skills)
