Knowledge Management Programme Officer

Background

The Agricultural Sector Coordination Unit (ASCU) is an inter-ministerial Secretariat to the Agricultural and Rural Development Sector Ministries. It spearheads, coordinates and facilitates the implementation of the Agricultural Sector strategies. 

ASCU now seeks to recruit a dynamic, competent, highly motivated and well exposed candidate to fill the position of a Knowledge Management Programme Officer. 

The Knowledge Management specialist will lead the knowledge management, and communications strategy of the agricultural sector.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development of information resources for the agricultural sector
  • Maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of data collection and analysis and the publicity/communicating externally the lessons learned and success stories of the sector initiatives.
  • Generation of information on progress in implementation of ASDS and sector performance for dissemination to stakeholders
  • Design, develop, and manage virtual knowledge management Centre- virtual resources that will serves as a centre of excellence to provide stakeholders access to cutting edge agricultural, youth development and science educational resources, best practices and innovations.
  • Develop and implement visual identity for online, broadcast and paper-based documents and direct the application of policy on press and external relations.
  • Ensure the collation of communication and information needs for the purposes of feedback and lesson learning of internal and external stakeholders, including the development and dissemination of an online and paper-based library of accessible case studies and thematic papers of best practice and innovations.
  • Oversee the work of strengthening existing EMIS systems, to make them more effective and responsive to needs of all information users, at all levels.
  • Link the Kenya’s Knowledge management system with the region.
  • Any other duties assigned by the ASCU coordinator from time to time.
Desirable competencies
  • Sound understanding of the ASDS and sector- wide approaches to development.
  • Sound understanding of information needs of the ASDS stakeholders.
  • Data / Information generation and packaging.
  • Designing information package to suit various stakeholder groups.
  • Knowledge of Relational Database Management System and GIS Tools.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to interact with people of diverse backgrounds, religions, colour, nationalities, gender, and creed.
  • Good conduct and high moral integrity.
  • Analytical mind with excellent reporting skills.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree- in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information systems, Communication, Sociology, Agricultural Sciences, Natural Resources Management, Geography, or related subjects; and
  • Masters in Agricultural Information Management, Biometry, communication and/or GIS, or relevant areas.
  • Five years of experience in agriculture, environment, or natural resources management;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to prepare written reports and documentation in a clear and concise style;
  • Over three years work experience in a similar capacity, in a busy organization, either public or private;
