The objective of the Kenya Youth Empowerment Project (KYEP) is to support the Government of Kenya’s efforts to improve youth employability. Kenya Private Sector Alliance is tasked to implement the component of Training and Internship.

This component is a pilot that addresses issues of lack of skills and work experience for disadvantaged young women and men.

It provides selected youth (who are out-of-school for at least a year; have a minimum of 8 years of schooling, and have not been working for a year) with an opportunity to acquire relevant work experience and skills, through a private sector internship and training program.

It supports three activities namely: creation of internships in the private sector; provision of training relevant to their work experience; and monitoring and evaluation to capture lessons from the pilot.

There is also a training element aimed at upgrading the skills of master craftsmen, who then are required to offer internships in the informal sector (particularly targeting the 15 – 17 year age group).

The percentage of interns that hold tertiary qualifications will be capped at 40%.

Third party training will comprise 50% of the 6 month internship period while the other 50% will be spent at the work place.

KEPSA is seeking to appoint an Assistant Internship Officer and Project Assistant to support the project operations.
