1. Radiologist

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participating in the annual performance appraisals for the staff in the department.
  • To work with Radiographers to maintain and continuously improve the services provided by the department.
  • Contributing to medical imaging research and writing articles for the Hospital
  • To participate in the staff recruitment of diagnostic and imaging staff in consultation with hospital management.
  • Fluoroscopic screening for special procedures
  • To arrange for cover during the consultants absence from work in conjunction with the hospital management.
  • To formulate and review the Vision, Mission and the strategic planning of the diagnostic and imaging services in conjunction with the hospital management.
  • To organize for continuous medical education of diagnostic and imaging staff by organizing workshops, seminars, courses and on the job training.

Job Specifications

Educational Qualifications

  • Masters of Medicine in Radiology
  • A Bachelor's Degree
  • At least two (2) years experience in the same field

Skills and Experience:

  • Experience in a busy Radiology Department.
  • Proven skills in emergency radiology
  • Excellent interpersonal relations
  • Valid registration and annual practice licences
  • Maintaining strict confidentiality
  • Exposure to computer aided reporting will be an added advantage

2. Clinical Pharmacist

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate/advises physicians about the dosage regimen and possible drug Interaction. 
  • Also counsels the patient about the disease, adverse drug reactions and other clinical concern.
  • Advising physicians on the inherent dangers of drugs and their eventual side effects as well as helping them in the prescription of correct doses. This advice promotes improvement in drug usage / dosage and in the supervision of therapeutic procedures for best results.
  • Coordinating the pharmacy technician ´s duties – who work in the preparation, labeling and delivery of various medications or supplies according to prescriptions – and making sure that all dispensed drugs are recorded and delivered in accordance with local, state and federal laws or regulations.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree in Pharmacy
  • At least two-years experience.
  • Certifications in different areas of Pharmacy and an accredited residence program are a plus.

3. Radiographer / Ultrasonographer

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performing ultrasound examinations
  • Provision of efficient and timely ultrasound imaging services within the laid down standard operating procedures and protocols.
  • Safeguarding all confidential information concerning patients and their treatment
  • Effective use of picture archiving & radiological information systems
  • Upholding professional code of conduct and statutory regulations especially on radiation safety
  • Upholding professional code of conduct and statutory regulations especially on radiation safety

Job Specifications

Educational Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography is desirable
  • At least two (2) years experience in the same field
  • Able to work under minimum supervision

Skills and Experience:

  • Experience in a busy Radiology Department.
  • Proven skills in emergency radiology
  • Excellent interpersonal relations
  • Valid registration
  • Maintaining strict confidentiality

4. Anaethesiologist

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Managerial Activities
  • To provide high quality care to hospital patients.
  • To ensure that equipment used is in good condition and safe for use
  • To guide and ensure that self and all staff comply with all regulations contained in the Hospital policies and protocols e.g. confidentiality.
  • To develop and maintain own professional competence and knowledge by keeping abreast of new developments, concepts, work methods etc. both clinical and professional.
  • To attend clinical meetings and hospital committee as may be required from time to time.
  • To lead the emergency response team in the event of patient collapse.

Skills and Attributes

  • Well coordinated and smooth operations of the ward/department.
  • Effective systems, procedures and standards necessary for safety and high quality care and service to patients.
  • Effective on-the job training and staff development for both ICU and the ward staff to

Job Specifications

Education qualifications required

  • Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from a recognized university.
  • A Master of Medicine or equivalent in Anaesthesia from a recognized university will be an added advantage
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in a similar role

5. Medical Officer

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • To provide high quality care to hospital patients.
  • To establish and maintain effective communication with the medical staff, other disciplines and support services.
  • To ensure that equipment used is in good condition and safe for use.
  • To act as a role model, exercising leadership and creating a suitable environment for an effective hospital team.
  • To guide and ensure that self and all staff comply with all regulations contained in the Hospital policies and protocols e.g. confidentiality.

Job Specifications

Education qualifications required

  • Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from a recognized university.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in a similar role
  • ATLS/ACLS Training will be an added advantage

6. ICU Trained Nurses

Key Duties and Responsibilities


Clinical Responsibilities

  • In addition to the responsibilities of a registered nurse, the following activities are unique to this position:
  • Responsible for total patient care, including medication, orders and treatments.
  • Practices economical use of equipment and supplies, informs proper authority of discrepancies.
  • Participates in or initiates CPR and Codes when necessary.
  • Serves on Special Nursing Committee when requested.

Professional Development

  • Maintain the required number of credit hours for continuous medical education (CME) for both The Karen Hospital and the nursing council of Kenya annually
  • Is required to participate in programmes of in service training.
  • Must be ACLS/BLS certified

Skills and Attributes

  • High standard of nursing practice
  • Effective communication with doctors, patients and their relatives and all other Hospital Departments and the public.
  • Effective control of resources.
  • Adheres to the infection prevention measures as per The Karen Hospital standards.

Job Specifications

Education qualifications required

  • Diploma or Degree of an accredited School of Nursing KRN/KRCHN
  • Post Basic Training in Critical Care Nursing
  • Any other appropriate diploma or degree will be an added advantage.
  • Customer Care Training
  • ATLS training will be an added advantage
