One Acre Fund is an agricultural NGO in Kenya, Rwanda, and Burundi that is innovating a new way of helping farm families to achieve their full potential. One Acre invests in farmers to generate a permanent gain in farm income. We provide farmers with a "market bundle" that includes education, finance, seed and fertilizer, and market access. 

Our program is proven impactful – every year, we weigh thousands of harvests and measure more than 100% average gain in farm income per acre.  We are growing quickly. In five years, we have grown to serve 70,000 farm families with more than 500 full-time field staff.

Job Description
 
One Acre Fund is a rapidly growing organization; increasing the number of sublocations and districts we work in each year.  We are seeking individuals to take leadership positions in the organization as in our Headquarters and Regional Offices to effectively run operations.

Primary Duties of Senior Performance Manager
 
Mentorship and Evaluation of  Field Staff  - The senior manager is responsible for reviewing data on field staff performance, and visiting staff  with junior managers in order to provide follow up feedback and observation.

Mentorship and Evaluation of Office Staff  - The senior manager is responsible for ensuring that the office based team also maintains high performance—from computer data and filing, to training execution, quality checking work from the field. 

Performance Management Data and Systems - The senior manager is responsible for ensuring that the department Performance Management System is updated weekly, and that follow up rewards, warnings, and other feedback reaches the junior managers and staff members as needed.

Screen and Interview - New StaffThe performance manager is responsible for maintaining a continuous pool of reserve field staff, who have passed through the One Acre Fund basic screening process.

Staff Development -
The performance manager will be responsible for “mentoring up” 3-4 other management-track staff members—both for internal department promotion and/or promotions outside of the department.
 
Assist with Finance – Manger will assist in reviewing budget for the team and tracking costs in order to minimize unnecessary expenditure.  Manager will consistently support and enforce the One Acre Fund zero-tolerance policies regarding financial fraud, stealing, and dishonesty.

Foster Positive Teamwork and Cooperation  – There are many teams within One Acre Fund. These teams work in diverse places and with diverse people---in different Kenyan districts, in both interior and town settings, and also with both local and international staff.  Fostering a positive team mentality among such diversity is a challenge, and will be a key responsibility for the senior manager.

Qualifications
 
We are seeking exceptional professionals with minimum of three years of work experience, and a demonstrated long-term passion for sustainable agricultural development in sub-Saharan Africa.

  • Strong work experiences. Examples include a demanding professional work experience in business or NGO’s, or successful entrepreneurial experience 
  • Demonstrated Experience at Managing a Team
  • Leadership experience at work, or outside of work.  
  • Experience managing other people.
  • Proven ability to set and meet targets on the job
  • Clear communicator/mentor
  • Proactively solve problems
  • Top-performing undergraduate degree in business, administration, finance, accounting, agricultural studies or other relevant fields from a recognized University (please include grades and test scores on your resume)
  • Integrity and a Positive Attitude
  • Demonstrated computer skills in email, internet usage, Microsoft Office
  • Demonstrates high quality work with a strong attention to detail
  • A willingness to commit to living in Western Province or Nyanza for a long term position
  • Language: Fluent in Kiswahili and English Required.
  • Passionate about serving smallholder farmers
Please highlight the following skills if you have them
  • Experience using databases in Microsoft Excel
  • Experience on smallholder farms, or working outside in rural areas
  • Experience in Statistical Analysis
  • Experience with management role in a team of 20 or more
  • Experience in teaching and training
