Lutheran World Federation / Department for World Service Kenya Program is seeking to recruit a Kenyan national for the following positions based in Dadaab Refugee camp:
 
1. Educational Audiologist
 
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide hearing evaluation and consultation services to facilitate the personal, social, and intellectual development of learners.
  • Establish a positive learning environment and respond to the individual needs of learners.
  • Communicate effectively with all members of the inter disciplinary committee
  • use specialized instruments and electronic equipment to test and measure hearing abilities and balance disorders
  • determine the degree, type and location of hearing or balance problems
  • recommend, select, fit or teach the learner how to use appropriate assistive listening devices (for example, hearing aids, cochlear implants, telephone adaptors, visual alarms)
  • help parents and others facilitate communication for people who have hearing impairments
  • maintain the learners records
  • consult with and advise other health professionals
  • Prepare reports, records, and materials required.
Qualifications:
  • Diploma from KMTC or its equivalent
  • Have 4 years working in an EARC or any related field.
  • Previously worked in a hardship or marginalized area.
2. Braille Transcriber
 
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Prepares and adapts materials in support of blind or visually impaired students
  • Transcribes instructions, tests, classroom materials maps, textbooks, charts and other instructional materials into Braille
  • Prepares a variety of other tactile and/or enlarged materials for students’ use, using a thermo phoning machine
  • Translates (interlines) Braille print for the benefit of classroom teacher, parents, specialists, and others
  • Operates an enlarging copying machine in duplicating Braille material
  • Consults with classroom teacher on material us and determines appropriate adaptations for individual students
  • Assists TVI and/or classroom teacher by providing the and in support of Orientation and Mobility (O&M) instruction
  • Observes performance of learners.
  • Assists with assessments to monitor areas of needs and concerns and reports to classroom teacher.
Qualifications:
  • Certificate in Braille Transcription from KISE or KIB
  • Demonstrated certification and fluency in Grade II Literacy Braille preferred
  • Five years of experience transcribing in the blind community or in an educational setting with visually impaired learners
  • Demonstrated knowledge of basic child growth and development
  • Demonstrated knowledge of effective learners behavioral management strategies and techniques
  • Demonstrated ability in effectively operating a Braille writer, with keyboarding skills at 40 words per minute(wpm) keyboard, and other office machines and equipment
3. Occupational Therapist
 
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Carrying individualized evaluation to determine occupational performance and prioritize on the functional rehabilitation.
  • Doing therapeutic intervention to improve the client’s ability to perform daily activities and reach his/her rehabilitation goals.
  • Modification of therapeutic techniques and development of new strategies to compensate for functional limitations.
  • Working in collaboration with others to promote independence in all aspects of life.
  • Advises on the need of disability and inclusion in participation in the community activities.
  • Making referrals to appropriate medical implementing partners
  • Collecting and proper maintenance of data according to the requirement of the organization
Qualification
  • Diploma in Occupational therapy from KMTC or a disability oriented field from any other reputable institution.
  • Registered and Licensed by K.O.T.A
  • 4 years Minimum Practical Experience
  • Experience conducting assessments and coordinating placement at EARC centers, SNE units is a plus advantage.
  • Previous work experience in hardship, marginalized areas or emergency setting.
  • Working experience in rehabilitation/inclusion of children with disabilities is an added-advantage.
4. School Counselor
 
Duties and Responsibilities;
  • Establish and manage counselling services within the LWF schools set up.
  • Work with teachers in various schools in identifying pupils who require counselling.
  • Offer psycho- social needs to pupils in schools.
  • Arrange for regular training workshops for staff on tips for counselling.
  • Provide regular reports to school management on progress of each child under counselling.
  • Provide follow up of children who have benefitted from the counselling programme.
  • Keep counselling records confidentially and ensure child/client protection policies are adhered
Professional Qualification;
  • Degree in social sciences preferably psychology or higher diploma in the same field.
  • At least 3 years of proven work experience in a similar position.
  • Valid certificate of practice
Skills set required;
  • Ability to identify pupils who require counselling support.
  • Ability to offer psycho-social needs to pupils who require the same.
  • Ability to train staff in basic counselling skills and how to identify pupils in need of counselling.
