CAP Youth Empowerment Institute Kenya, is supported by MasterCard Foundation, was established to provide Basic Employability Skills Training (BEST) for disadvantaged youth in the society with particular focus on women to get equitable, qualitative learning and access to promising labour market oriented opportunities, savings and credit that support their pathways to safe and positive futures. 

The key purpose of the organization is to assist 10,000 disadvantaged youth to make informed choices, develop labour-market oriented employability skills and access job placements, savings and enterprise development support. 

About the position
 

Communications Specialist will be responsible for project reporting including donor reporting on an annual, bi-annual and quarterly basis. 

The Communication Specialist will also coordinate and manage public relations and events which include working with journalists and media houses to ensuring proper, accurate and timely coverage of CAP YEI activities as well as appropriate branding and marking for the project and donor. 

Job Responsibilities
  • Developing CAP YEI social media strategy as well as managing the social sites.
  • Writing and editing regular and ad hoc reports to MasterCard Foundation.
  • Managing CAP YEI technical documents production schedule including overseeing the editing, design and printing and coordinating with project staff for dissemination of published documents to partners.
  • Working with journalists and media houses to ensure accurate and timely coverage of CAP YEI activities.
  • Providing administrative support to special events to ensure a smooth and professional presentation and a positive public image for the organization and donor.
  • Identify and cultivate new strategic partnerships to support the programme.
  • Developing content for the organizations website.
  • Coordinating and supervising press conferences, media briefings and interviews.
  • Identifying multimedia opportunities to highlight the work of the organization. Identifying publicity and news angles for the organization programmes and projects. 
Requirements
  • Computer proficiency with hands on experience with online content management and use of social media for business purposes is required.
  • In addition, He/She should have demonstrated print and/or online publishing experience and should have exceptional organizational skills with ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • The ideal candidate should have a bachelor’s degree in communication, journalism, public policy, international development or related field with at least 3 years of relevant working experience.
  • S/He should have excellent writing and editing skills for a variety of platforms with excellent interpersonal and public communication skills.
  • Past experience working with International NGOs is desired.
