Job Title: General Manager 

Location: Keringet, Kenya

KCSEED foundation is a community owned foundation based at Keringet Location of Kuresoi District in Kenya. 

Keringet Community Social Economic and Environmental Development Programme is an initiative of the KCSEED foundation modeled on Global Management Approach (GMA) where community members start by mapping the available resources and asking themselves what they can do to effectively and efficiently use the resources for community member’s health and prosperity.

The 5 year programme commenced in April 2012.

The programme is funded by Gorta. 

The overall aim of this programme (achievable in 5 years) is a healthy community which is socially, economically and culturally developed, living in harmony with their environment. 

KCSEED foundation wishes to recruit a General Manager to manage the income generating activities of KCSEED foundation and be based at KCSEED office in Keringet.

Job Title: General Manager 

Location: Keringet, Kenya

Main Purpose of Role: To drive and manage the activities of Keringet Foods Company

Terms: Contract, Full time  

The job holder will be responsible and accountable for all the activities of Keringet Foods Company. 

He /she will work to ensure that all activities of the Keringet Foods Company are as per the business plans. 

He/she will direct, promote and coordinate the operations of the Keringet Foods Company in a manner that will optimize the company’s market share and grow shareholders funds as well as helping the company to achieve her mission and goals through offering products and services that not only meets but exceeds customer needs and preferences. 

The GM will also ensure that all employees are performing their job responsibilities and meeting expectations in all areas of their job descriptions hence.

The jobholder will work under the supervision of the Keringet Foods Board of Directors and will be based at KCSEED Kimalany office 2 kilometers from Keringet town along Keringet Molo tarmac road. 

S/he will work directly with a team of line managers heading individual enterprises namely; milk chilling plant, water bottling plant and potato value addition plant. 

S/he will also work with Keringet CSEED Foundation programme manager and food and economic security officer and other government staff who will offer the required link to farmers and shareholders

Reporting to: Keringet Foods Board of Directors

The jobholder will be responsible for the following activities:

1. Sales and Marketing
  • Prepare and review marketing and sales plans with enterprise managers on a regular basis.
  • Plan marketing and sales activities and review results and expectations with enterprise managers
  • Plan and personally implement the sales and marketing activities of Keringet Foods Company ensuring that all sales targets are met.
  • Review individual department sales and promotion programs annually
  • Establish sales goals and develop plans to achieve them.
  • Establish and manage Keringet Foods company products distribution channels
2. Reporting
  • Review enterprise daily reports
  • Keeping the board informed of the company’s status and activities and assisting them with organizing and managing board activities.
  • Submit monthly reports, general information and recommendations to the board of directors.
3. Policy formulation and implementation
  • Assist the board in formulating and reviewing policies and provide all facts needed for smooth running of Keringet Foods company activities.
  • Communicate policy decisions to all staff members and ensure all company activities are implemented as per the set policies
  • Develop procedures that would make it easy for staff to implement the board policies.
  • Help plan the annual general meeting and report to the company shareholders
  • Determine the company’s capital requirements and presenting budgets to the board for approval
4. Total Customer Satisfaction
  • Provides quality product and customer services experience that delivers total customer satisfaction.
  • Establish a feedback mechanism that positively and quickly responds to customer concerns.
  • Build the capacity of staff, mentor and motivate them to deliver total customer satisfaction.
  • Ensures all employees are trained, motivated and empowered to deliver total customer satisfaction. 
  • Evaluates each employee’s ability to maintain high levels of customer satisfaction.
5. Staff Supervision Training and Development
  • The GM will be ultimately responsible for the performance of all line managers hence he will participate in selection and supervision of line managers as well as in making hiring and termination recommendations.
  • Developing and communicating company goals and results to line managers
  • Develop and review budgets and work plans with line managers quarterly, half yearly and yearly
  • Determining workloads and schedules, assigning employee responsibilities and maintaining job descriptions
  • Develop performance standards and undertake employees performance reviews
  • The GM continuously improves the skills, knowledge and morale of all employees. He or she treats the employees with dignity and respect; creates an environment where the entire team does the same.
  • The GM effectively utilizes all training programs from new employee orientation up to and including management training classes.
  • Organizing and holding regular employee meetings
6. Effective Business Management
 
The GM maximizes financial performance and profit.
 
The GM develops and executes the individual enterprise business plans (key elements include: fiscal responsibilities, manpower planning and marketing) for Keringet Foods Company. Achieves results by planning, communicating, delegating and following up.

 7. Public Relations
  • Public relations involves building and maintaining positive relationships with community members, government departments and other collaborators, shareholders, suppliers, customers, and the general business community at large
  • The GM will Develop sound working relationships with other companies and partners within the business community
  • Personally and officially represent Keringet Foods Company in public functions and other business forums
  • GM will Build and maintain a positive company image and relationship with business partners, collaborators and community at large.
8. Perform any other duties as assigned by the board of directors.

Qualifications and experience:
  • Education: Minimum: Bachelor\'s degree in business management, those with MBA or degrees specializing in sales and marketing will have an added advantage.
  • Experience: 5+ years related experience.
  • Work Experience in any either milk/potato/bottled water value chains.
  • Previous public, community, and/or Board relations experience beneficial.
  • Computer Skills: Standard computer skills.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Special Skills: Ability to lead and motivate; strong planning and forecasting skills.
  • Supervisory: Will supervise a group of Team Members who perform similar duties.
