OUPEA is seeking to recruit a high calibre, results-oriented, experienced and highly skilled professional for the position of Senior Editor – Kiswahili Dictionaries.
Summary of the position: This is a senior position responsible for conceptualizing, planning and management of a strong list of market-oriented Kiswahili dictionaries and Kiswahili reference titles.

Key responsibilities

The Senior Editor will provide leadership in developing comprehensive, high quality Kiswahili dictionaries and reference educational teaching materials to appropriate markets. 


The Senior Editor will provide leadership to a team of highly skilled authors, editors and reviewers in planning and execution of the publishing programme for Kiswahili dictionaries and reference materials. 

The Senior Editor will also monitor educational and market trends and steer activities to expand adoptions of all new titles and revise existing ones to suit current trends.

The Senior Editor will build strong relationships with key stakeholders in the education sector.

Knowledge, skills and abilities

The position requires a relevant Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Education with a major in Kiswahili, combined with at least 2 years’ relevant teaching or editorial experience. 

The ideal candidate should be flexible, should have good organizational skills and should be able to work independently and within a group. 

In addition, the individual must demonstrate a thorough understanding and knowledge of the dynamics of the education systems and markets in Eastern Africa.
