Organizational Context and Scope

Under the overall guidance of the Transition Initiative for Stabilization (TIS) Deputy Program Manager in Nairobi, and under the direct supervision of Project Officer, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing support to field coordination Unit (FCU) of the TIS Project both in Hargeisa and Mogadishu in grant proposal development.

Key responsibilities will include gathering background information from the field staff, beneficiary institution, and secondary sources, write grants proposals for all TIS grants under development, submit the draft grants proposals for review within TIS IOM and submit the grant proposal to the Program Manager for approval. 

The Program development Intern shall maintain an updated matrix showing status of writing and provide report to the Project Officer on weekly basis.

The Program development Intern will also support Field Coordination Unit with reporting on the implementation of grants in accordance with the priorities established by the project’s Senior Management team, and according to the established IOM and USAID procedures.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities 

  • In collaboration with Field Coordination Unit, assist to collect all grant back ground information and data required to develop Grant Proposal and develop sound draft Grant Proposal;
  • Submit draft grant proposals for review and comments to the relevant units with TIS IOM and ensure that all edits and comments are incorporated into the grant proposal;
  • As part of grant writing, assist in developing all other forms and templates associated with grant proposal such as Environmental Review Form (ERF), Budgets and Political Grant proposal (PTG);
  • Assist in submitting the final grant proposal to the TIS IOM program manager for approval and subsequently to USAID for concurrence;
  • Assist to prepare and keep track all grants and grants proposal submitted to USAID for concurrence and maintain record of the same;
  • Assist in maintaining an updated matrix showing status of writing and provide report to the field coordinator on weekly basis;
  • Assist the Field Coordinator with the general implementation of the programme as requested by the Field Coordinator;
  • Assist in preparing weekly, monthly and quarterly reports required for the program and provide other project updates;
  • Assist with updating financial, narrative records and photographic files, in accordance with programme standards and requirements;
  • Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

Personal Development: The incumbent will acquire technical knowledge in the Field Coordination Unit and acquire enhanced understanding in administrative support, research and data management from an international organization’s perspective and will gain in-site experience in working in an international multi-cultural environment, with an intergovernmental organization.

Education and Experience
  • Completed university degree in social sciences or related field;
  • Ability to understand, develop and implement administrative and financial control procedures,
  • Sound knowledge of development programme planning and implementation objectives;
  • Understanding of socio-political dynamics of Somalia is added advantage;
Languages
  • Required - English Fluent 
  • Advantageous - Somali Fluent
