Vacancy: Senior Officer - Technical Services

About Kenya Bankers Association (KBA): Kenya Bankers Association (KBA) is the umbrella body of the banking sub-sector with a membership of 45 banks that are licensed and regulated by the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK). 

Registered as an industry association in 1962 by the Registrar of Trade Unions, over time the core function of the Association has evolved from focusing on labour matters to include promoting industry development and economic growth. 

Towards this end, KBA has undertaken major industry-wide initiatives, including aligning standards and the modernization of the National Payments System through the Automated Clearing House, which KBA owns and operates. 

In line with the Government’s policy on public-private partnerships, the Association works closely with the Regulator. 

Under this partnership, KBA and CBK have implemented key milestone projects such as the Real Time Gross Settlement System (RIGS), the Kenya Credit Information Sharing Initiative, and Currency Centre projects. 

We are looking to recruit a Senior Officer for the Technical Services function based in Nairobi.

This position supports the implementation of the Technical Services Department’s mandate of the KBA.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Partners with Director, Technical Services in managing the Automated Clearing House services on a day-to-day mode.
  • Partners with the Director, Technical Services to ensure up to date information on the technical matters affecting the banking industry.
  • Plans, organizes, develops, implements and interprets project goals, objectives, policies and procedures, etc. necessary for providing quality advisory service to KBA members.
  • Provides ongoing and timely communication to management and staff regarding on-going projects.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of, and supports, KBA’s mission, vision, values, service standards, policies and procedures, confidentiality standards, and the code of ethical behaviour.
  • Maintains productive relationships with members in the defined market through delivery of knowledge based service and support.
  • Supports and conducts training efforts for continuing education on technical services in KBA.
  • Interfaces with other industry technical experts to create and maintain up-to-date information on market trends.
  • Partners with Director, Technical Services in managing overall IT day to-day operations to improve infrastructure costs, performance, and end user satisfaction;
  • Manage IT resource requirements to ensure appropriate balance between tactical and strategic demands; implements IT continuous improvement programs for increased service effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Support the Technical Departments’ Secretariat role in the respective KBA committees.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • A Degree/Related Degree in Banking or IT
  • Certifications in Database Management, Data Processing, Computer Science, Management Information Systems or Network Communications is an added advantage.
  • Minimum three (3) years relevant work-related experience.
  • Banking background and familiarity/experience with banking operations is advantageous.
  • Working knowledge of Operating Systems (Windows/Unix/Linux) is also an added advantage.
  • Detailed-oriented with strong analytical, trouble-shooting, prioritization, and follow-up skills.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Good Inter-personal and Communication skills (both written and oral).
  • Good leadership skills — able to influence others
  • Project Management skills
  • Good understanding of Technology and Technology as it applies to Banking.
  • Understanding of Payments, Clearing and Settlement Systems
  • Good Banking experience and knowledge of Banking regulations i.e. CBK Prudential Guidelines.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally within the region, when required.
