The Institute for Security Studies (ISS) is an independent, non-profit applied policy research organisation with a focus on human security in Africa.

Its mission is to conceptualise, inform and enhance the security debate on the continent.

The ISS has offices in Addis Ababa, Cape Town, Nairobi and Pretoria, with a Head Office located in Pretoria.

Office Director - Nairobi Office

The successful candidate will provide overall management and oversight to the Nairobi office on all matters including programme delivery, financial and human resources management, general administration and fundraising.

S/he will work in collaboration with a team of Project Leaders and staff members, and provide oversight and support to project management, fund-raising and donor relations.

S/he will be responsible for the overall financial and administrative management of the office, ensure effective human resource management relating to staff performance, grievance and disciplinary matters, and manage a team of finance and administrative staff.

The successful candidate will be responsible for building relations with national and regional stakeholders including governments and non-governmental organisations, and managing partnerships with stakeholders.

This is a senior management appointment within the Institute. The incumbent will report to the Executive Director of the ISS and sit on the Management Committee of the Institute.

Requirements:
  • A Masters degree in management, humanities, social sciences or law.
  • A minimum of ten years general management experience.
  • Excellent financial and human resource management skills.
  • Good communication, presentation and networking skills.
  • A proven track record in fund-raising and donor liaison
Salary: Salary commensurate with ISS internal salary structure.

Assumption of duties: 01 January 2012.
