Based in Nairobi, Kenya with international travel 30%

In this important role you shall lead the Regional security staff network, develop and maintain a Regional Security strategy that promotes Plan’s Global Security Policy and reflects regional and country priorities across the 12 countries in the region.

You shall lead security mainstreaming activities to promote a positive security culture throughout the region, provide credible information and contextual analysis of localized and regional security situations and incidents.

You will provide appropriate advice to management, monitor, provide support and reporting on any Government, UN, NGO filed security initiatives as well as identify, create and maintain a security network with INGO/UN and other security specialists in the region.

Establish a system to manage the overall security register, implement actions to mitigate risks, conduct field security assessments examining

Plan’s resources, assets, compounds, residences, field sites and projects and compile a security report with recommendations.

Responsible to develop and oversee security training and briefing tools to ensure compliance with Plan’s Global Security Policy and maintenance of security best practice, monitor all communication from the region related to security incidents and planning and provide timely feedback to questions raised from the field, conduct security training needs assessments and staff security management training.

Generate activity reports on security including database analysis, new threats, responses and vulnerabilities and any relevant lessons learnt from security and safety incidents, respond, support and advise the senior management within the region during humanitarian or security/safety emergencies and oversee the security incident reporting criteria.

You will need a relevant academic background, preferably a degree with at least 5 years experience in NGO security risk management Police/ Military/ Analysts background with at least 5 years civilian security sector experience.

You will have deep and clear understanding of humanitarian principles and code of conduct;

High level of experience in developing security strategies, related technical tools guidelines and systems;

Strong assessment, evaluation, analysis and strategic planning skills; and ability to network with all parties and maintain a position of humanitarian neutrality.

It will be advantageous if you have worked previously in a position that had a regional scope, served in a multi functional team and worked at a professional level in a child development organization.
