The Agricultural Sector Coordination Unit (ASCU) is an inter-ministerial Secretariat to the Agricultural and Rural Development Sector Ministries.

It spearheads, coordinates and facilitates the implementation of the Agricultural Sector strategies.

ASCU now seeks to recruit a dynamic, well exposed and competent candidate to fill the above position.

Key Responsibilities

The overall purpose of this post is to provide communication advice and guidance and to implement communications plans for ASCU.

The role will specifically ensure that the right communication resources are sought, developed and distributed to the relevant audiences.

Key responsibilities of this officer will therefore include the following;
  • Support the implementation of the Agricultural Sector Communication Strategy.
  • As the communication focal point, the officer will oversee the delivery of the ASCU’s programmes’ communications, including media relations, events organization, policy initiatives, crisis communication, stakeholder relations, Internet based communications and publications.
  • Responsible for managing brand communications and streamlining all communications to the brand principles – with consistent messages and modes of communications - highlighting key brand attributes including uniqueness of the organization, dynamism and global nature.
  • Responsibility for developing and implementing a comprehensive online strategy including comprehensive website, social media and mobile outreach and promotion built information networks.
  • Organize press conferences, media liaison seminars, exhibitions and media interviews for different stakeholders, to show-case the sectors’ work.
  • Develop strategic partnerships with key players in the sector.
  • Develop and manage a media database as well as monitor media clippings.
  • Support the creation and sharing of quality, relevant multimedia communications content, to help raise the sector’s profile and influence through the delivery of effective communication outcomes nationally, by overseeing the production of all ASCU’s promotional literature.
  • Manage design and print suppliers.
  • Assist in the preparation of presentations and speeches as necessary.
  • Initiate and support the programmes’ team in developing interesting stories that demonstrate the impact of the Agricultural Sector.
Desired Skills and Abilities

The holder of this position should have the following skills and experiences;
  • Excellent oral and written (English) communication skills.
  • Ability to write creatively and edit communication narratives or resources and reports.
  • Should have good photography skills.
  • Should be computer literate and experienced in the use of basic computer software programmes.
  • Should have adequate understanding of rural development to be able to work programmatically.
  • Should be creative and a team player.
  • Should have useful media contacts.
  • Must be flexible, be able to work under pressure for long and irregular hours, and meet strict deadlines.
  • Must have a broad perspective on issues.
  • At least two years experience in busy corporate communications, print, electronic or social media office/post.
  • Additional related skills such as videography and video editing skills will be an added advantage.
Minimum Requirements

The holder of the position should have at least, a Bachelors degree in any of the following areas: communication /Journalism; or Community/ Rural Development; or any other relevant training from a recognized university.
