Kenya Plant Health Inspectorate Service (KEPHIS) is a state corporation in the Ministry of Agriculture whose responsibility is to ensure the quality of agricultural inputs and produce thereby promoting sustainable agriculture and economic growth. 

The Corporation seeks to recruit a dynamic, innovative and experienced individual to fill the following position at its headquarters.

Programmer / Software Developer
 
Reporting to Head – IT, the Programmer/Software Developer translates requirements for new or modified computer applications into program specifications. 

This may involve installing IT, designing, modifying, testing and writing programs, supporting work teams and solving problems with software.
 
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Solutions design, customization, implementation, upgrades and maintenance of the ERP system as well as customized software in use by the organization, in line with approved user requirements and business needs
  • Translate the solutions provided by systems or business analysts into detailed program specifications
  • Undertake program design and test programs and make amendments
  • Modify code to correct errors or to enhance the program’s capabilities
  • Prepare documentation for other programmers, users and support personnel
  • Ensure application programs meet user requirements and are delivered on time
  • Compiling overall systems documentation and ensuring adherence to systems documentation standards
  • Perform routine ERP and customized systems data backup, database maintenance and other business continuity procedures
  • Perform routine end-user support and training on key business systems
  • Perform any other ICT related tasks as may be directed by management from time to time
Essential Qualifications, Experience, Skills and Personal Attributes
  • Degree with a major in computer science, computer engineering, or any relevant tertiary qualification from a recognized university
  • 3 years of recent experience developing in fourth generation programming languages using the .Net Framework in Windows Forms or ASP.NET projects
  • Strong understanding of Java, XML and Web Services
  • Excellent working knowledge of SQL Server 2008 and MySQL database design, implementation and maintenance
  • Good understanding of SDLC-Software Development Life Cycle in software development
  • Experience with continuous integration of systems
  • Experience with Web Portal Development in ASP.Net and Joomla or any other CMS
  • Extensive knowledge of a variety of operating systems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage projects, with excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Eagerness to work hard, learn, develop new skills and expand one’s horizons
  • Strong team player and have the ability to work with minimum supervision
